Hello Folks,
I have been a fan of RC controlled planes for as long as I can remember. Now, as my age starts to head toward the stratosphere, I'm looking to take up that hobby that I have loved for the longest time. I have zero experience in rc planes and have only built the occasional RC Semi Truck kit from Tamiya.
As I start down this path toward rc planes I plan on saving a few bucks on crashed planes by getting myself familiar with them through the use of RC simulation software. I have read, and read, on the programs available and have come to the conclusion that it comes down to two. Those being Aerofly and G3.
My question is, which in your opinion is best for a "newbie"?
I'm not trying to start a "p*ssing contest" here, I'm just looking for some great feedback from you knowledgeable folks before I go out and spent 250.00.
Kindest regards,
John

John all of the sims are good for beginners, you just have to decide which features are important for you. They all have photoreal fields (and all can import new fields). The big decision is wether or not you want the ability to add on extra planes for free or be able to fly with others online. Reflex and Aerofly allow you to download hundreds of planes (and helis) for free while G3 does not. G3 has online multiplayer while Reflex and Aerofly do not.

Thanks Rick!
I guess I should have mentioned that multiplayer is not important and add-on planes are! I plan on building a few models within the sim (I'm a CAD designer/modeler by profession) and really want something with that feature.

I own G3 and I agree most come down to G3 and Aerofly both really nice sims. Although G3 does not currently let users import there own planes it is being incorparated into the game it was suppose to come out with the latest patch from what I read but didn't fall trough. So I would say the next patch for G3 will let users import there own planes. This is a big deal to me also since I am a modeler and I can make my own planes and I am unable to do so. But G3 is offering a closed beta at the moment for users with a official 3ds Max license. So its really your decision if you want to be able to incorporate planes now and don't care about multiplayer get Aerofly. If you want to be able to do this in the future and would like to have multiplayer as a bonus get G3. I am a helipilot so I don't mess with planes to much besides when I am bored. So far as physics I would say they are both the same.
Either way you can't go wrong with any of them. Both are great for new people to the hobby, and offer alot of inexpensives crashes
. If I wouldn't have had a sim I would probably have a $1,000 bill in repair parts lol

Doesn't sound like your into the heli thing very much so reflex is out of the question i guess (That's what i own). Between G3 and AFPD, from what i've heard, AFPD is the way to go. I wish i owned AFPD sometimes for the airplanes, XTR is Good in my opinion on the planes, but not "Great". Just my 2 cents.

Thanks folks!
Reflex looks fantastic, but as you guessed, Helo's are not my complete cup of tea. I do wish to learn the in's and out's of them, but I figure most my time will be with the planes. I'm still not completely sold on Aerofly (although that is the way I'm leaning) because it seems as if G3 is getting their act together somewhat. I have the money burning a whole in the pocket and am just waiting to hit the purchase button....
Desicions, desicions....

Hallo, i wants too say that AFPD have also the biggest group of users from where many guy's very productive are.
They make many planes , scenerys and tools, so if you choose for that, than have also the best feedback too
[&:][:-]
So thinking over about that... sucses

John,
I too am straddled the fence on choosing a rc flight sim. I would like to be included in your reply for getting the 15 day trial version. I have a JR radio if this makes a difference.
Thanks in advance,
Mickm
