Ok, I'm going to speculate here that things relate to the calibration
steps. It's important to move all sticks, press all buttons, and flip
all switches, and turn the flap knob. If one of these is missed (the
first time through), there can be an issue, and that's why removing
the .cal file and recalibrating following all steps helps. Use the
TacCon controller on this first pass. In a few days we'll have a
patch that can handle missing a step in the calibration process. But
again if things are done per instructions, then this calibration issue
does not come up. So maybe this is what happened, or maybe not...

If the sim has already been installed, it can be made into a fresh
install by going into the Options menu, and on the last page click on
"Use Default Options Upon Shutdown" and the also delete the .cal file.

RoyLFlush - The fact that you had to perform 3 installs is very unfortunate, and is something we're taking very seriously. Despite the extensive beta testing that FS One received, it seems that some unexpected issues were missed in testing, which caused you difficulty. We are very sorry for this inconvenience, especially considering your extensive knowledge of computers. Rest assured that we definitely want to help you and others get FS One installed and in full working order.

If you continue to have problems tomorrow in helping your friends at your LHS, I urge you to please call Hangar 9 customer service. If they are unable to help you, I have asked that they escalate your support directly to InertiaSoft developers and we will personally try to help you and the others at your LHS get things working. In particular, we need to know what particular problems people are encountering so we can help people get past these problems and start enjoying FS One.

In the first few days since shipping, we have received a few reports of calibration problems after a mis-calibration. This can happen if all axes are not calibrated properly. With the TacCon controller, this often occurs if either the InstantUp or ResetPlus buttons are not clicked during calibration.

For now, the immediate fix is to manually delete the calibration file, but I have just completed code changes for a software patch that will address that issue and should eliminate the mis-calibration problem completely. We're hoping to have this patch posted on the FS One web site in a few days, after we are able to test it to ensure it works well and reliably. As we learn of other difficulties that may arise, we will post additional patches as necessary. We will do what it takes to keep our customers happy.

I found that when I uninstalled the program,manually deleted ALL files and folders associated with the program,re-install and re-calibrate the Tac Con I got a successful install-the helicopters are still a problem tho.I am going to LHS today to try that on their computer

i put fs one on my sony computer it has one of the top of the line video computer. i have run reflex , g3, and aerofly pro on this computer no problem at all. I believe reflex is the best one out now.

I'm trying to make a decision between flight simulators, and I personally am still awaiting the resolution of the issues some have experienced. I develop software for a living and understand how common it is to have problems on initial releases of a product. I'm encouraged by the reports of the fixed wing flight model, as it seems like this is both the most important thing, and the thing least likely to change significantly. If the company can step up and fix some of the usablity issues soon, than it shows they are willing to respond to feedback and support their product. This is more important to me than the initial release being perfect.

That said, I am waiting to see that issues are resolved. Additionally, I'm really interested to hear anyone's experience with the helicopter flight model, as this is the main reason I haven't gone with an existing sim. I don't have the money for two flight simulators, and the consensus seems to be that the front runner of fixed wing is weak in helis and vice-versa. Since I don't yet have experience with flying helicopters, it's not something I can judge for myself in a demo either.

Well, that's my two cents on what I've read so far. Hopefully the brave people willing to give it an early shot keep the info coming for those of us waiting it out.

I'm anxiously awaiting some more user feedback as well. Being in SW development myself too, I,'m not very surprised at some initial usability issues, and it seems like Horizone is dealing with them in a professional manner.

I still have not purchases any simulator since I find the $200 entry price a little steep, but I'm getting close to taking the plunge.

I am sure there will be people on here that like one over the other....kinf of like Futaba, JR, Hitech...The question is does it really matter...they are all good. I have G3, AFPD and FSOne. They all have the strengths and weaknesses. I am running on a Dell Inspiron laptop 2.1 Ghz Centrino with 2Gb of RAM and I have upgraded the video to the Nvidia 6800 Ultra (mobile card). I really think the flight model on this one is as good if not better than AFPD and G3. The install takes a while but I really like the interface on FSOne better than the others. It took me a while to figure out how everything worked, but once I figured it out it was not a big deal. I can select a plane and configure my 10x or 9303 and have it flying in a few seconds. I have not liked any of the flight sims the first few times I tried them out, but once I get used to them I like them all in one way or another.

I expect many on here are trying to install this program on an older computer. If you have anything less than a high end video card...give it up...this program will run ok on the $200.00 card at best buy...but you will get stunning effects on the higher end cards. Nvidia 6800 ultra or ATI X1400 or better will make this thing really come to life. Just my .02 worth...

I have another question, and this goes for all the sims, since it hasn't occured to me before. How is resolution selection done? Are there specific supported resolutions you pick between, then it runs full screen like most games? Or does it run windowed, so only the desktop resolution matters? How about widescreen support? I would like to run it hooked to my big screen, but to do that I have to run one of the HDTV timings, so that might be a problem if there are set resolutions, and no widescreen support.

Just installed FS one and so far the sim is right on. I have the Funtana 90 & 40 and the sim flys just like I'm at the field. One question about editing the CG. When i put in a new value and click OK the plane flew the same so when going back to edit it I found the CG goes back to the original setting. How do you save the changed values. Rick G

i've been waiting for this sim for some time, but after reading this thread i am going to wait until the first or second patch before buying.

We have discovered that the computer at the LHS has a bad memory chip-it will be replaced tomorrow and we expect to install the program with no problem
It is running smoothly on my Dell laptop-I brought it to the LHS today and,while I was working on their system, people were trying it out nonstop for two hours-this program is a BIG HIT

BTW, the first FS One patch is currently in QA/Test prior to deployment. Pending an okay in testing by the QA team, this patch should be available late tomorrow afternoon or sometime on Thursday via the FS One web site. This patch addresses the calibration and re-calibration issue that some people have experienced.

RoyLFlush -- How did things work out today at your LHS as you helped them with their installations?

DJBentle -- FS One can run in an automatic full screen mode (default), a user-specified full screen resolution, or a windowed mode (user-specified resolution and placement). Wide screen support is available, right out of the box. For example, it works great on my 1920x1200 24" widescreen LCD. It really makes it seem like you're actually at the field!

RiotGear -- Your cautious approach towards a new software product is understandable. However, the second patch should be ready in a couple of days, so you might not have to wait much longer to meet your two-patch criteria!

All -- When InertiaSoft set out to develop FS One with Hangar9, our goal was to develop a great simulation product for the hobby but also to support that product with patches, updates, expansions, etc. Although we performed extensive testing over many, many months, some issues may have evaded detection. During this initial release period, we're working hard to quickly respond to any issues identified by our customers. The InertiaSoft development and engineering team has an extensive range of aeronautical engineering experience as well as many years of flight simulation development experience for military and commercial flight training organizations around the world. We leveraged that background/experience to develop FS One, and now we'll focus that capability in providing patches and support in the days and weeks ahead.

RoyLFlush -- I was typing my reply (above) while you were replying. I'm glad to see that things worked out well at your LHS today. Hopefully, the installation will work well after getting the memory replaced.

By the way, if you don't mind, what are the specs on your Dell laptop and which model is it? It's always good to hear what sort of systems can handle the sim well. Thx.

Im running it on a Dell,Inspiron E1505 with P-4,Core 2 Duo 2 gig processor,1 gb Mem,upgraded ATI Radeon x-1400 card with 256 mem.
Just a note FYI-it hiccups a lot when I run off the battery-if Im plugged in its smooth although it seems that when I run an aircraft for the first time,it loads and runs slower and stutters a bit.After that everything speeds up and runs smoother.

RoyLFlush - That LHS didn't happen to be Venture, did it? I drove up there from Bloomington on Sunday cause I needed a servo...bad...and they said that they had had it running, but something was wrong with the computer. I seriously considered offering my services as a tech, but I had a friend with me and he was getting antsy to get home. I really wanted to try it out while I was there and would have bought it had I liked it...

No retail price for this will ever be 349, its a blatent lie and an attempt at rediculous deceit, and something that Im seeing more and more everyday...its moronic almost to think that these idiots that write this actually think an intellegent person will buy from them when they do stuff like that.

What about user made planes for this sim, is that possible?

The practice of listing a Retail is done with virtually all products. I'm not following how you view the price structure of a retail and a lower street price as deceptive or different in any way from the pricing structures of airplanes, radios etc.

I agree with you on one point. It is petty.
List price/actual price differentials are most common in the automobile industry. If you ever pay sticker price, most likely you've been had. They also throw in all kinds of incentives to drop the price but locks you in to a payment plan that makes them more money off of interest during the life of the loan than the incentive gave you. THAT is deceptive. This is nothing more than general retail pricing structures. I worked at Circuit City in college. Everything had a massive retail price but it was never sold for that much.

So, if you're taking this stance. Don't buy a car. Don't buy any electronics...ESPECIALLY a plasma screen tv.

Well, most cars/electronics are listed in stores are MSRP, even if they often get sold for less.

This will never be listed at 350 because the price that the hobby shop owners are told to put on it is 200 bux.

Its one thing to say, add a small percentage to it...but to say, buy it here, and get it for this (same as everyone else) or buy it somewhere else for nearly double ... its a little off.

Now that FS one is out, I would be interested in some feedback from those who have bought it.

How is the flight realism, especially for 3D flying? Any comparisons to G3 or other simulators would be useful.

Also, is there a "keep both the plane and runway in view" option. I know G2/G3 had this, although it wasn't selected by default. I want the simulator to zoom in/out automatically so that the plane and the runway are always in view - otherwise I get lost.

rjm1982, you must not do much shopping for ANYTHING...ANYWHERE, besides maybe for food and clothing. This is not a deceptive practice, in fact, it's a very common practice among consumer goods manufacturers. List Price/Retail Price is all the same thing. Our LHS got caught trying to sell a Blade CP Pro for "Retail" price and got called on it big-time. The whole retail/list price thing is the company's way of trying to make the customer feel they are getting a deal when they pay the "shelf" price. NO manufacturer or retailer, with very few exceptions ^^^^, think they are going to get paid the List price. In fact, this tactic is also used in retail outlets. One sticker says "List Price", the other says what they're actually going to get for it.

Basing your decision on whether to buy FS-One or not because they list the Retail price on their web site is just silly. Make your decision on the merits of the product and not a pricing practice that has been used for as long as I can remember.

IMO, the "retail" price is insulting to the customers. However, there isn't any way to get around that until all companies get rid of it.

Just had the LHS put one back for me. I've been watching the demo videos over the course of the last couple of days and honestly, its hard to tell that I'm watching a simulator. I've been flying on G3 extensively since January of 2005 so I'll try to give you guys a comparison.
