L0stS0ul, You said it pretty well. G3 is not perfect.

Mike,
I doubt that the plane had been messed with. I do know that they had an issue with the instalation of FSone and they had to call one of the folks with FSone to get it straight. This was one of the "we've never heard of this problem" responces, which could be true in this case, but it's still a joke. However I doubt that that would cause the plane to fly the way it did.
Like I said in my "review" my setup is completely different from everyone else's setup and that could be the cause as to why the plane flew like crap IMO. However, other folks I've talked have hated the setup on the planes. On the 3D issue, H-A wasn't really that great. the propwash factor over the surfaces was really weak, and many other things. The CG was too far foward IMO. I'm not an IMAC pilot though.(couple reasons there) However, I do fly the IMAC patterns, so take that however you want. I haven't messed around in the editor, so I can't tell you what I feel is wrong with it. If you want to see what my setup feels like, check out the stock G3 3D Yak 54 and make these mods:

25x10 three blade prop
da-100 sound
0 expo on all rates

I don't mean to bash the flight model, but it needs some major work , IMO. But maybe my thumbs need the major work.... lol.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

I have heard about several problems with the install. I dont get it. Although it is large with 4 cds, it is a very simple install. There just really isnt anything complicated to make it go wrong unless you have virus scan on. Also...make sure it is on a PC that is reccommended.

Riotgear -- FS One is certainly NOT being recalled. I don't want to be disrespectful, but your LHS must be confused somehow. Where do such rumors come from?

HobbyTownUSA in San Jose, California. They were confused.

I just installed FsOne on a Viao 1.8 P4, 1gig, ATI 128 meg All-in-One. It installed first try other than the controler would not calibrate until I installed the first patch. Have very little time on it yet (darn work anyway), but so far it has been glitch free.
I must say though, the graphics are not quite what I thought they would be. Not bad, but not earth shattering either. Once I changed views only to find the wing of the plane through the pilots legs. Ouch.

this simulator just came out and there are already two patches for it?. how many more are to come. im so disapointed.
That's actually great service, not bad.

Patches fix problems. They're fixing them fast. This is bad? It's to be expected that beta testing won't discover needed updates that a much larger group of "testers" (the first purchasers) can find. It's also to be expected that beta testing won't stop just before a product is about to hit the market. So software is often released on or near it's promised delivery date while testing is still going on. And if that testing finds bugs, a good software developer will fix them as fast as possible and have the patches available as fast as possible.

How many more to come? With any luck, as many as needed as quickly as possible.

G3.5 is a big patch. Is it disappointing that it's being offered now? Not at all. And they've got excellent competition from FSOne's "fixers"..... our model sim flying public is in a win win win win situation right now. Enjoy it.

One is already available for d/l. The other was mentioned by FSOne people as about to be released soon.

Agreed, this added competion with FSone coming on the market along with Phoenix really is going to push the more established sims that have been kinda sitting on the laurels. I can't wait to see how AFPD and Reflex will respond. Maybe nothing but G3 certainly took notice. Competition is always good for the consumers no matter which sim you buy. It's when one wins that we all end up getting back to crappy products lol

Here are my 2 cents on FS One. First off I have been flying for 26 years but have NEVER gotten into 3D until recently. I own Reflex, AFPD, and G3. Before I took a plane out to the field I hammered away on my sims (don't really fly Reflex that much anymore since the USB dongle is intermittent). However, after some practice I can lock a hover on each of those sims with no problem (with winds and turb put in for good measure). Went to the field. NOT the same expereience. Nose was all over the place, it fell off the hover over and over again. Lets face it, it was BAD! Came home fired up AFPD and had no probs in the hover.

Got FS One today and pulled up the Funtana 90 (the plane I was flying in real life) and took it up for some 3D. I flew is exactly like I did at the field. I sucked! I don;t just mean that I couldn't hover (which I found it hard to do) but it behaved just like my real Funtana.

The graphics are good but not great. I am having problems with it crashing when it goes in and out of the menus (but I am running it on an SLI system). Take this for what its worth but I was really suprised that I flew as badly on the sim as I did in real life. That have never been my experience on the other sims (as my helicopter training days will attest to!!)

Good Job.

Has anyone tried a 14mz on this program yet? Any problems? How did you set it up.

Thanks

I haven't because it comes with the 100yr old Futaba connector. You have to pay extra for the modern connector. A big W-T-F came out of my mouth when I saw that. [sm=punching.gif]

I think that if you already have G3, you can use all the 5-pin to JR connector, and then the JR to DIN(new Futaba) connector so that you can use the 14MZ on it. I don't know though as I haven't tried it. BTW, G3 has this FREE!

One other thing that caught me by surprise in FS-One. It seems to actually read the radio output instead of just stick movements. Let me TRY to explain what I mean. When a plane has a servro for each aileron I need to mix in a channel on my JR 9303 (as everybody here knows I'm sure). However, in all the other sims I had to create a SIMPLANE/SIMHELI Model that never mixed in anything since they only seemed to read the stick movements and move the ailerons in the "Right Way".

I was AMAZED that when I started trying out the FS One Funtana I could not get it to fly with my SIMPLANE model. When I taxied it to my feet to check out the controls I found that only ONE aileron moved. I switched back to my real Funtana model (which mixes in Channel 6 for the other aileron) and it worked as it should. Including my Aileron Differential!

I don't know if I missed this option in the other sims but I sure as heck never HAD to do it. I have only had FS One for a day so I am still checking it out but its little things like that that, IMO, move a program from a game to a sim.

BTW, G3 has this FREE!
When I referred to you as a staunch G3 supporter before, I was understating. After combing these threads for opinions of ALL the sims, I'd have to say you're G3 obsessed. What made me post this is that after reading so many of your posts, by the time I read this one I *had* to think "This guy MUST have G3 tatooed somewhere on his body, and that tat is seeping somthing similar to liquid happiness into his bloodstream".

I owned G3 for a few months, running version .430, and did enjoy it. Was a great game. What I'm interested in however is a great *sim*. I'll echo GeneG in that I progressed very rapidly in my 3D flying skills within G3 and could do it all; hover, I could mush around in an upright harrier all day long, rolling harrier 360's to the left and to the right scant inches off the deck. However, in the really real world (I'm far from novice, been flying IMAC patterns for years....just new to 3D) I couldn't even hover. I have since learned to hover very well, learned to deal with wing rock in an upright harrier and can even do rollers (in a straight line so far) and for grins went into the LHS to see how G3 felt by comparison. It was easy to fall into the old habits I'd acquired and everything was so easy. The problem is that the old G3 habits do not reflect my real world experiences.

My hope was/is that fsone can harness that realism so that my skills don't have to atrophy in the off-season. G3 was a lot of fun, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the ticket to realism I had hoped. If fsone feels like G3 then I'm not interested, and certainly not if it's *worse*. I just have a hard time objectively viewing fsone commentary from someone who's living the G3 dream.

4.5 hours invested now, still haven't flown a plane on FSOne due to a variety of issues. The primary one is - I unplugged my 9303 TX from the USB thingy while the soft ware was running. Maybe that was a huge no-no. However, there is warning about it on the card or at the support website(s). Since that moment, I have been unable to get my Tx to control any of the sliders or anything else. I have restarted, downloaded patch, deleted .cal files, tried different Tx, all to no avail.

I dunno, would it have been too much to ask to pay somebody overtime to work the tech phone line on the weekend FSOne arrived at Hobby Shops?

This item is now covered in the FSOne faq here:

Let me know if you need more info.

Just installed FS One this afternoon. Followed proceedure on how to connect the "TacCon" and USB interface to my USB port. The green light comes on the TacCon (As it should) Then when I try to run the program I get the" No USB interface found" error msg. I tried all four of my USB ports, same error. I checked my USB ports with my 2.0G flash drive and it works in all ports. Called FSA One support but they are gone for the weekend, sent them an E-mail also. So I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and can tell me what I might be doing wrong .... Thanks Manny []

I'm not FS One support, but I can help.

First, check the www.fsone.com FAQs about controllers.

When it is plugged in, does it show up under the regular Windows Game Controller gadget? That's a way to see if your computer is seeing the device. Does your system go beep-beep when unplugging and plugging in the FS One USB Interface?

manny, try disconnecting all usb devices except mouse keyboard, reboot, connect TacCon, then relaunch FSOne. You can also try updating the USB drivers for your computer. It is a shame that customer support for FSOne is off on the weekends. You would think they would be around since most of us have to work M-F and only have time to mess with the sim on the weekend.

Thank you, riotgear and MSelig for your quick replys. Yes I had disconnected all USB devices and it still gives error. I will look for latest USB MB driver. And also when I connect or disconnect the usb interface at my computer USB port it does give me a tone. and I checked the game controllers via the control panel and do see that it is listed as, "8 axis 0 button device" and its properties does allow me to test it and every control on the TacCon changes its corresponding display... . will get the latest USB 2.0 driver for my MB and check it again .... Does the Hangar9 USB interface name show up when you click on "Select Interface" on this page (the fly page below)?

Hi Manny,

Are you plugging the controller into a USB hub or the PC itself?

Hi MSelig, thanks again. No, I don't get tha far. After I click on the FS One icon to start the program, I get a dark blue screen and in the middle of it I get the error msg,

No USB interface detected.
Please plug in the interface
OK

I unlpug from my USB port and plug back in click OK and then get this msg...

Critical Error
The USB interface is still not detected
Simulation terminated

Then my screen goes back to my desktop....
