Having spent the weekend flying the new G4 Sim, I found it very realistic. The draw back is that it takes a lot of memory.. I had to use a friends computer to get it to work. I didn't have enough memory in my video card to make it work with my computer. I'm going to have to up grade. The G4 is very lifelike.. Trainers fly like trainers and the feel is the same to me as actual flying. Has anyone else tried it? I have flown the G3.5 at my local HS and found the G4 much better in all phases (Graphics and "feel"). The Extra 300 is on rails! You can use a gyro to help learn to hover. And the flying fields and water are very lifelike. You can feel the floats by comparing several different types of aircraft with and without the floats; some types fly much better than others with floats. I'm sure that it will help me a lot learning new manuvers and just general flying. I think that anyone just starting out would be miles ahead flying similators first. The cost of a sim will pay off with the first crash.... MY advice fwiw, buy a sim before you buy anything else if you want to get started in R/C flight...

Hey knotnuts;
I picked up my G4 from my LHS, yesterday. Installation was a breeze with no glitches, thank goodness. I test flew it before at my LHS and was not really 100% convinced. The graphics on their computer were not better than G3.5 or even FSOne, which they also have on the same machine for comparison. I said to myself: Oh, what the heck amd bought it. At home, after the install I started the sim and my chinn dropped. The graphics were stunning, much better than at the LHS. Well, I have to admit, I have a GeForce 8800 GTS video card with 640 Mb an my system runs Vista on 2Gb. That certainly helps a bit. But besides the unbelievable graphics, the physics are much better as well. Very realistic. I had a chance to try out the Aero Fly Pro Deluxe on my buddy's computer and found the planes are a bit too "floaty". I like the G4 better so far. It has a ton new features, which I haven't even tried out yet. What totally excites me is the realism. I bought it mainly to improve and learn more tricky maneuvers and to be able to fly during the nasty winter weekends. So far I spent 200 bucks very wisely.

Yes, there is coupling with knife edges. Also plenty of wing rocking. Haven't tested the tail slides yet. I will try to post some screen shots for you.

Hovering is very realistic and the tailslides are unbeatable. BTW, tried to do some screen shots and up load them here. First off, it's kinda difficult to fly with two hands and hit two keys aat the same time on your key board. Seciondly, can anybody tell me how to convert the screen shots into jpg or gif files for uploading?

Never mind, I 've got it figured out. Actually it is pretty easy in G4. You take a shot by pressing the tab and the print screen key simultaneously and it saves it as a jpg in a special directory. Here is a custom built Extra 300L I hover a few feet off the deck. Kinda tricky to do the hovering and hitting two keys at the same time

Is the extra 300 one of the aircraft that comes with G4? Do they have other "skins" for it?
Thanks!

Yeah, it comes with G4 as an Extra300L. And has 3 or 4 skins if I remember correctly.
I don't remember too well, because I've painted a version to look like an old favorite of mine (which wasn't actually an Edge, btw). But I do know for sure it's one of the installed models.

You are correct, da rock. But this Extra was downloaded from www.knifeedge.com, which BTW has plenty beautiful custom airplanes and flying sites for free downloading. This particular Extra 300L is a giant scale, I believe a 35%, and flies absolutely beautifully. It even has a canopy that you can open with a switch
. Hovering, knifeedges and the likes are fantastic. So far she is my top favorite. The stock Extra is not bad either and comes with three different skins. The Yak 54 is another great 3D plane.

Sorry guys, that is a extra 300, not a 300L. A 300L is a low wing, and the 300 is a midwing . . .
Thanks for the web site. I will have to download the 300 when I get G4. I was clicking through the G4 web site last night and the wife saw the sea planes and said, "You have to get that . . ."

The Extra that is in G4 actually is not the airplane thevirginian pictured that came as a download. The one in G4's install is a low wing. Matter of fact, I think it's pictured on the G4 advertising pictures.
So there are two versions readily available.

I got the Real Flight G4 for Christmas, and I love it! I did have to upgrade my computer with more memory and a new video card, but after spending about 200 clams doing that I am off and running. I have not purchased the add ons yet, but they are on my list of must haves!
