I've tried for 2 days now to get my FS One controller to work with my USB port and nothings worked. I get an error that it can't find the controller through the USB port and asked me to connect again, and the application doesn't even start. Now I found on Inertiasoft's web site that on very few computers the controller won't connect due to a registry problem and I should call hanger 9. Now, why wouldn't they put the solution on the web site?? When I called Hanger 9, he had no clue as to what to do but to say send it back and they'll check it. I know its not the controller because I took it to work and installed it there and it worked perfectly, so I know it's not the controller or software, its with my computer.
I'm running windows 2000 pro w/ service pack 5 installed. I installed the latest video drivers, the latest USB drivers and I even uninstalled all the other USB peripherals I have and it still won't work. I can even test the USB port with my camera and it found it just fine but not the FS One controller.
Need some help if any one has ideas they can help with. My wife went out and bought me G4 (the sweet heart) to have me try that, but I'm afraid it will turn in to the same problem.
Thanks,
Steve

I run FS One on Win 2000 Pro. I never had a complication with the USB interface.
Just put on my trouble shooter cap as I read your message and I'll let you know if I think of something.
The easiest but also hardest solution is to simply reinstall the OS... I'm guessing some other software installation at some point has foobered something with the USB. It happens... for example I tried a new firewall a while back then after was impossible to reinstall my old firewall. It can be good to have a registry fixer like TuneUp Utilities to avoid these things, but might be too late for that to help.
Again I'll try and think of something. Hopefully I or someone else comes up with something so you don't need to reinstall windows (which for sure should fix it (and reset whatever's been foobered) as I know the USB interface works in Win2000).
Hang in there, I hope you're flying soon
edit: how new is your system btw? Possible that it could be a little too new for Win2000, but I'm assuming you bought it with Win2K on it.

You can't have another controller or joystick in an other USB port. There have also been some instances with 2000 where a mass storage device (USB external drives and CDs and even certain card readers) will use the same IRQ or DMA (try to use the same space) that the application expects to see the controller. Unplug anything you don't need from the USB ports and try it. if at all possible, try to use a USB 2.0 port.

My computer is not new, about 3 years old, but I did buy it with W2k on it. The 2 reasons I went with FS one was I wanted my son to learn how to fly and I didn't want him to use my JR radio, I wanted a controller. The second reason I had XTR and this problem was happening as well. I couldn't get the interface to work with my XTR.
I had my XTR it worked perfectly for about 6 months until (i believe) I installed a USB hub for other perpherials. From then on I've had no luck with either XTR or FS one.
I may go the route of upgrading to XP and see if this solves the problem, but why would just upgrading fix the USB problem?
Is there a way to contact InertiaSoft to help with this problem?
Thanks for the help.

Btw, I have updated only up to service pack 4. I've never rolled back a service pack in Win2000. Rolling back to SP4 though is just a guess, but SP's are known to cause new problems.

That may be a good idea to roll back to service pack 4.0, I'll find out how. The IT guys here at work were shocked whe I told them I was at 5.0. I have other reasons to go with XP, I use Soildwork 2008 at work and I need to run it at home and it doesn't run on W2k.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions, I'll keep you posted.

sbtiger -- Hangar 9 support probably knows how to help you with the USB problem. They have seen this a few times where the controller's USB name gets mangled. They can help talk you through the solution. Give them a call...

Brian, I did call Hanger 9 and talk with a customer service rep. He did not know what to do beside to send it back in. After calling Hanger 9 I installed it here at work on XP 64-bit and it worked flawlessly. So, this weekend I will upgrade my W2k pro to XP home and hopefully this will take care of the problem. If it doesn't, I'll call hanger 9 again and post another note here.
Thanks,
Steve
