I'm bang on 20kg now, with all the body'n stuff.
It may be a complete slug off the line, but I have a couple of different sprockets should fix that.

If I wanted to go at light speed, I would have just bought or made a teeny weeny 1/10th one - that's where the quick ones are
This has become more of a modeller's exercise in my mind..

I made a crappy wooden frame to box the car in, to set the distances between wheel centres, so I can be sure (after tensioning the chains) the car won't "crab" down the road.

I had to make some "pointers" to fit all wheel centres
Once the pipe is finished and installed, it will be time to go for a drive

That is one slick dragster.
You and Kenazzo are in a league of your own.

So will there be a video soon perhaps?

What exactly do those pointers do? Is it some way to help make sure it runs straight?

That's right, I have a wooden box fits around the car (lines up with marks on the floor)
The pointers tips match up with 2 x tape measures that are on the top edges of the box.
This way, when I tighten the rear chains, I can be sure the axle is straight (perpendicular to my Centre line)
Hopefully this way it will go in as straight a line as possible when driven

I think that there is more math than experience in this dragster? Why is the wing so high? Are the wheels go-kart tyres and why are the front wheels so far apart? Sorry to sound so ignorant but it's the way I am as a newbie?

Dude, it's all relative
Don't forget the 10 metre rule
If it looks like the real deal from 10 M, then you've succeeded.

Real rails have the front wheels staggered, so a built in "crab" function counters torque steer.
Man, as I've said before, I'm not re creating the Bluebird here, just making a functional model.

thanks for looking, mate[sm=rolleyes.gif]

Yeah or as we say in the landscaping business....
"If it looks good, it is good"

And sometimes: "Doesn't matter, I can't see it from my place anyway..."

Well fellas, I've been working 'round the house lately, and repairing a couple of trail bikes for mates of mine, so time spent on the RC car = ZERO.
I do, however, have some light at the end of the tunnel.
Bikes are fixed and gone, House is back to normal, but I still have to wait to get my pipe...[]

Anyway, the only small thing done recently was to get rid of the windscreen washer tubing, and put in some 'Tygon" fuel hoses.

When the weather warms up, I promise I'll get stuck in, and do a video of a pass (and a burnout!)...what's a pass without a burnout?
cheers,

Hmmm...and why is it (no one can tell me why) that black tyres make white smoke???

Q: When old tires are burned they emit thick black smoke. But when Nascar cars slide sidewise or do victory burn-outs the smoke is pure white. Why the difference?

A: When tires smoke from spinning on the pavement, they’re not actually on fire. The temperatures are too low. The white smoke is vaporized rubber. The black smoke from burning tires is the carbon that’s left over from incomplete combustion.

OK dude,
I am going to assume that you were maybe born later than 1980?

I have a lot of stuff from the '60s and early '70s from Drag culture. My Grandfather was editor of Australian Hot Rod Magazine in the 60s and early '70s.......
All the rails back then looked a LOT like what I'm making here.
Maybe I should have called the thread 'nostalgic dragster", or something............
Truth is, I don't really care anymore if there is a discrepancy between the real deal, or modern top fuellers

As said before (many times)

I'm not re-creating the Bluebird here, rather a functional model.... OK???

Some other IDIOT on youtube was referring to the front wheels as being too big, - look at the old photos, and all is looking relative to the genre back then.

I did not make this car to be like a 2008 rail, rather more like something from the "Rat Fink" era. But then, maybe you haven't a clue about the "good ol' days," right?

I don't wanna crap on about glory days, but if it wasn't for the pioneers, you would not have the technology you have today.

Oh God, I feel old when I say, " back in my day, we took bayonets in the side!!!"
lol (something we used to give to the apprentices)

PS... I am fixing the ol' pipe...got impatient about the new one

Geez, Devcon Titanium putty isn't cheap!!! $150 AUD for 1/2 a litre of the stuff!!! Anyhow, when finished, I should be able to play baseball with the pipe when I'm finished.........

I`m just waiting for your first run vid mate, i know the old style rails and yours looks like a lot of them. Some of the early ones would be considered absolute crap these days but were top shelf technology for their day. Think of it like this, you are educating todays generation on a little motoring history at the same time as making a beautiful model.
Now wheres that burnout?

G'Day Troppo,

I have so little time these days to spend on "the beast"
here's a picture of the bleach I'm gonna use to do a staging session....
Videos... HELL, YEAH

Notice it's sitting on a " Possum Trap"...................we're supposed to call it that, but we all know it's for cats

I have a few mates who wanted me to make one ( another reason why time spent on the rail is minimal)
but I hate cats..............doesn't everyone?

When I fix the pipe, I'll do a short vid in the street - my own version of Summernats "Burnout Comp"...should look good on a bleached pad of ashphalt. [8D]
