Default Help - Which E-glider RTF to get? asap

My birthday is saturday and my g/f is wanting to get me something "nice" so shes going to get me a new plane.
I've never had an electric and my 2M *****cat still has some building time left before its done.
I think it would be cool to get an electric but I want to get a RTF
So what do you all reccomend?
I've been looking at the hangar9 Aspire however I'm kinda sceptical about using an AM radio, I see hitec makes two versions of this radio, one FM and one AM.

So does anyone have any first hand experience with these or something similar?
Also how well does using standard batteries work vs the nicads I'm used to?
I'm wanting a 2M built up (wood) construction.
Thanks guys!

Something else, I don't see a battery pack for the RX, so I'm assuming its using the battery pack for the motor.
So what happens when the battery dies from motor use or thermaling?

OOOoooo...I am envious. My planes are generally looked upon with scorn and not encouraged.

Have you thought about the Great Planes gliders? Tower Hobbies has a few pretty good RTF selections for about the same or less than the Aspire. Here is a link:

The Aspire is a great sailplane. But the RTF version is under powered. It needs a serious motor up grade. bob

you know I want one but I don't really want a AM radio with them, I think I'll just get the stuff I need to finish my other glider and then save up and build up a good e-glider
maybe something small so I can take it to work and fly on breaks?

First, there is nothing wrong with the Hitec AM radio. I used one with my Spirit Select RTF sailplane. Never a problem.

This is one you should consider seriously.

Multiplex Easy Star
R/E/T 1.4 M This is a cross between an e-glider and a parkflyer. We have
several
at our field. This is a good smaller first e-glider or a parkflyer. It a
very strong following. This is an Elapor foam plane that is very rugged,
flies well and thermals well. Makes a great "keep in the car"
e-glider/parkflyer.
ARF - $60

RTF with Radio - $189

Hanger 9 Aspire - $239 - RTF
R/E/T - 2M This is a traditional built up balsa glider with Polyhedral wing.
Many people add a gearbox to this plane for stronger climbs.

This Gear box and a 11 or 12X8 prop really makes the plane perform much better.
