Default WIND?

Today I got my crash kit in the mail and got the heli ready for flight and went out. It was windy(25mph), but I thought I try anyway. First it did not want to leave the ground even at full throttle and all of the sudden it flew up about 30 ft. high and then crashed. This is only my second attempt at flying. Damage appeared minimal so I changed the small parts that broke and tried again, but it would leave the ground at all. Did I do something wrong putting back together or is high winds enough to keep it grounded. I starting to think I don't belong flying helis. All I do is crash it and fail to set it up properly. Due to nobody around to help I'm about to give up on heli flying. I just can't afford more crash kits with no results my flying.

Ouch! Sorry to hear it, but it is a part of the learning process, kind of a right of passage. i crashed 3 times in my first 3 months, but knock on wood, have not crashed again in almost 3 months now.

Hang in there, it is a blast once you get the hang of it, but a real pain to get started.

25 MPH winds are chalanging for an advanced flier, take your time, pick calm days. chances are high the not flying is you don't have enough head speed. could be the fuel mixture, radio settings, engine getting too hot....

I am going to be in Minneapolis at the end of next month for a trade show. it is a long drive from minot, but i would be willing to pack a few tools in my bag and spend a day on it if you are willing to bring it.

There is a lot that can be done over the internet, lots of very cool guys who would like to see you succede. there are also a few web sites that offer a wealth of info on getting everything set up. i don't know much about other helis, but there is a web site i have been to for Raptors that might give you some very usefull background info. Check out www.raptortechnique.com

i have forgotten what heli you fly, but chances are high there is a site or two full of specifically for it.

I appreciate the offer but I would not be able to make it that far. I am kind of restricted due to my job in the USAF. I think I am just going to sell or trade the heli on here, maybe trade it for an 1/8 buggy or monster truck.

I've decided that I can't fly at all. Anyone looking for new Nexus 30 with 2 crashs and radio gear.

I have T-max truck to trade, has half a gallon thru it in good condition (it was boring compared to helis)

but i think you might be giving up too easily (no disrespect friend) there was a guy on here only a month ago, Rozzibandit was his name (?), he got frustrated so bad that he threatened to run his helli over with his car, but only a few weeks later he is flying. i would hate to see you give up when you are so close.

Take a few days to cool off and think about it, if you still feel the same way then, consider a trade.

yes thats good advice!hang in there son. first you need a while to calm down, then you need to take the heli to some one who can set it up for you and test fly it,if you don't know anyone then you can usually pay a hobby shop to do it for you at a reasonable price.anyone can learn to fly a helicopter you just need patience thats all,you can even learn to do it on your own, i did,as long as somebody who knows how to fly has set up the heli beforehand.when you first try to hover it is seemingly impossible to control the heli and, thought's like "i wish i'd never bought this helicopter" and "i knew it was the wrong decision"will frequently go through your mind!I should know i felt the same way.take things a little at a time, keep the heli only one foot off the ground and you will eventually be able to hover the helicopter at will consistantly, and land it at will, when you choose!and that is when the real fun starts!forget 1/8 scale buggies and monster trucks,i have a cupboard full of them gathering dust, they just do not compare to a helicopter, you HAVE made the right choice with a helicopter, you just need to get over a couple of hurdles first.REMEMBER,WE HAVE ALL BEEN THROUGH A SIMILAR SITUATION WITH THESE HELICOPTERS,NOBODY CAN FLY ONE FIRST TIME ROUND WITHOUT PRACTICE OR SIMULATOR TIME!

I don't know how to set up the heli though and there is nobody to help me. My LHS said I am the first to go heli in this area. I also meant to say 2 crash kits (not 2 crashs), I am in a very remote area and have no help with the set up of it. And to Spaceman Spiff I am thankful for you trying to help out but I just don't have the help needed to go on with this hobby. I am sorry but a Tmaxx alone would not be a good trade. I have to much into this heli to give it up for a Tmaxx. Maybe if some cash was in the picture I would consider a partial trade. Heli flight does look amazingly fun, but I just can't follow through with a lost cause.

i would say you got pretty far for being on your own. It, can be a challange even if you are familiar with nitro cars, and airplanes.

Mine was a pain at first. part of the reason was because it had a leaky O ring around the needle, it caused a couple days of frustration till i figured it out and fixed the carb. if you are using the TT 36 or 39, they are notorious for that.

Anyway there is no harm in thinking it over and checking the setup info on www.raptortechnique.com (a lot of the general info and ideas there do apply to your heli too)

The marketplace section of RCU works really well (i used it once a few months ago) I didn't get what i paid fo the stuff, but i got a fair deal, and it didn't take long at all.

best regards,

Spiff

First of all ...hang in there...heli flying is like no other.

The wind should have helped you off the ground...wind across the blades creats lift.

Dial in more pitch...and maybe more throttle.....do you know how to adj your throttle and pitch curves????

Take it real slow..baby steps at first.....stay with us ...we'll get you going.

Do you have trainig gear on????? Pitch guage???

But a couple crash kits and give errr another go.

Honestly, I don't know enough to set it up right. It just isn't going to happen with my knowledge on hand. I don't even know much of your heli terminology.

Sorry,

The site: www.raptortechnique.com is NOT mine. Some very cool and knowlegable folks put it together. not me.

beware this sport is hard on the wallet, maybe you could buy Helinew's stuff? he has a nexus, it is a suitable beginner/intermed level heli.

best of luck!

Just found a pilot locator on Ricks RC helicopter site, www.ronlund.com

click on "pilot locator" on the links on the left side of the page, there are several heli pilots listed for ND including a few in Minot.

Best of luck
