Servocity.com and brucknershobbies.com have the Futaba CH for less than that. Look for the transmitter-only package.

Yes, there would be 5 channels used. But I still recommend getting the Futaba 7ch as a minimum entry functionality-wise.
Have you picked out a gyro to use yet? Some require an additional receiver channel. I know that the Futaba gy401 head hold gyro does, and this is the most commonly recommended gyro for helis in the class your have purchased.
Oh, and I mistypes the link above
brucknerhobbies.com
$169 for the 7CH transmitter only.

In your price range the JR6102 is a good radio that will serve you well. It includes a full radio system as well.

You could probably find a 7CH used in the market place or ebay for your price. I would go that way.

if i could use a 6 ch control then hobbypeople.net has a Airtronics VG6000 with 4 servoes for $174.44,its in there book i have,
its for heli also, http://www.hobby-zone.com/airtronics.htm or this one http://hobbypeople.net/gallery/755493.asp .. a 7ch is WAY to high for me right now, can i get a 6ch to learn on and upgrade ?if i like this heli then im pretty sure ill end up with another next and can just use the extra control on it... im also wondering about something to deal with the heli's lift. i have had a micro heli and when i give it trottle it lifts automaticly.. does the gassers do it ?.. the reaon im asking is i had a sim for rc's i forgot the name, but the heli would not lift off the ground as i gave it trottle, the engine just gained RPM and i had to push up on another stick to make it lift off the ground. maybe thats not to confusing lol i confused my self.

I know most guys here a partial to Futaba, the small group of guys I fly with all use Futaba radio's. But for about $150-$180 you can get a brand new JR XP6102 on ebay...I cant remember the guys name but he sells a ton of RC stuff with really good feedback. His prices fluctuate a bit but I got mine new for $149 "Buy it now" with the warranty. This is my first transmitter, is very "beginner friendly", and already has 2 helis and 5 planes programmed on it
