Hello everyone,

Can someone tell me some R/C helo to buy along with website? I would like a combo buy where you get everything in one or etc. I'm new to flying and would like some ideas on what heli to get. Money is not a issue, just a matter of what's a great buy. I would like to start out electric first, but if gas is better than so be it. Thanks in advance.

It all depends on what you want to accomplish. "starting" with an electric isn't a requirement, infact most nitro helis like the Raptor and Hirobo EVO are easier to fly as they are more stable and have much more power than a micro electric.

If you plan on flying outdoors in the wind and such a small nitro such as a 30 or 50 size is probably the way to go.

http://www.heliproz.com has great combos and everyone that picks up the phone there flys, they will put you together something to fit your budget and expectations.

http://www.ronlund.com has the same level of service, talk to Nathan there.

If you can refine your criteria we can give you some better answers, ask away.

Thanks for the reply I would like to accomplish basic flying (nothing crazy). I do plan on flying outdoors Reading around, its seems as though the Raptor is the way to go. I think I’m going to go with the 50 size. Any ideas on what controller best to use with a raptor? What else beside helo and controller do I need to get things going? Anything problems to look out for? [:-] Thank you for all the help, it is greatly appreciated.

A decent radio is the Futaba 7C, a good radio is the 9CH both come with 4 servos, you will also need a gyro and servo for that, the GY401/9254 are the way to go there.

You will also need metric hex drivers, a pitch gauge, a glow driver, a glow plug extension, blue locktite, silicon grease and a 6mm starter extension, some ball link pliers, some Hayes clunk line and order pv0499 one piece tail hub and replace the stock hub when you build it.

Like I said, call Heliproz they will walk you through what you need.

barracudahockey is definatly heading you in the right direction. I have a Raptor 30 V2 with a JR 662 radio (Computerized so it's easy to make small adjustments without stoping the rotors and engine, getting out the screw driver and then firing it all back up).. I also have the 401 Futaba gyro combo.. It does an excelent job in holding that tail strait..

Again, Barracudahocky is right about heliproz. I bought my Raptor 30 there.. They are always great about answering questions on parts after a crash and they generaly lead you the right direciton.. They have even told me "Na, you don't need that stuff yet. It will just cost you more money the next time you crash".. They seem to be good honest and trustworthy people.

I will say that learning on a nitro heli cost more per crash and takes a lot more time to get going again after a crash than some of the small electric heli's.. I started with a LMH-110 (.09 powered 4 channel heli) with some success. The Raptor was next and helped me learn a lot, but was costly and time consuming along the way.. Getting it all tweaked out right again is a art I have not yet mastered and wish I could find some help on..

I later bough a E-Flite Blade CX.. As a training device, it is worth it's cost 5 or 10 times over. I have learned a lot from it and not been worried about crashing it.. It is very inexpencive to fix and comes complete for less than $200... That even includes the lipo battery and a 2 hour charger.. Although, most charges take under 1 hour.

If money really isn't an issue, I would highly suggest getting the Blade CX (Often refered to as the BCX) AND the Raptor.. They BCX will help with the fundamentals (Orientation is especialy dificult for newbies.. Nose in hover is a real nootle strain). You can also fly it on rainy days or even when you just have 5 spare min. Put in the battery and go. No messy fuel, no staring gear, just plane fun.. I should mention, no high speed flight or 3D stuff either! The Raptor is definatly more fun and capable of a lot more that the BCX..

Good Luck!

Dean

I found Helikraft extremely good to deal with and the cheapest around. You would look to pay around $900 for 401gyro, raptor 50SE, hyper engine and the necessary batteries etc.

Mexs If you want to start electric a Mikado Logo10 is the way to go !!! A great and stable flying bird . It is not a mini and will cost a few dollars . But maybe a better investment would be a Simulator for your computer . That way you can gain some very good flying experience on it while your making up your mind and while your building and setting up what ever you buy !! I use the Reflex XTR and find it very good . You can also turn it down so you can get used to the controls and get some flying in and as you get better you can turn it back to the normal setting where it will make the birds fly as close to the real thing as they can get it . If you do go that way get up with me and I will tell you how to turn the Reflex down , it's not in the instructions . Good luck and Happy Flying [8D] Also the corona is a very nice bird too I have heard it is almost indestructible .

While I would state the Coronna is a nice heli and is durable, the tail mechanism is easy to jam up and the tail fin does not stay on, leaving the tail rotor completly open to hit on anything.. I'm ont so sure I would advicse that heli. (Just my opinion from my experience with the LMH series). Don't get me wrong, it's great for it's cost, but there are better out there for just a little more money! The parts are not as common (at least in my local hobys shops). Most hobbys shops in my area carry just about everything for the Raptor 30/50, the TREX, The Blade CX and CP. Check around at your local hobby shops and see what heli's they carry parts for.

What parts are available to you is very important.. I have a very nice old 4 channel cricket sitting there ready to fly, but without the clutch plate I am missing, it is of no value.. Unless your a machinist with access to a small metal lathe and a plastic molding machine, parts availability should be an important factor in your decision. Not to mention that ONE little piece you need to go flying tomorrow that you can't get here by mail soon enough can really make for a spoiled weekend!!
