Default Tail rotor failure

Hi all, I have a blade CP with a DD tail rotor. The tail rotor just quit, it was working fine on one flight and the next time I plugged in the fresh battery, nothing. I tried to take a voltage reading with the throttle trim half way up but the heli didn’t like that. Any help for the noob?

thanks,

T.

More Info:
I unplugged the main and cranked the throttle...nothing. Then I tapped the tail rotor and it spun up. It did't seem to be full power as it didn't try to spin the heli. I think its time for a new tail motor. Anyone?

Big,

The taill motors on the CP are famous for going bad. If you taped it and it started to spin, even though at not full speed. The sucker is bad. I've had them go bad on me after 4 flights or so.. Buy a few extras, they don't spoil.

The brushes in these tail motors are crap... They wear out in no time. If there was an easy way to get the brush back on the (rotor?) part of the motor without damaging them, you could make it work for a little while longer. Perhaps there are other motors of this size that would be more appropriate??? I've seen on other threads here that the motor was designed for 7.4 volts, not 11.2 volts as with the lipo batteries. So the additional voltage burns the brushes that much quicker.

Thanks, that confirms my suspicion. I'll go buy a hand full of motors.

Why is it that when I touched my meter leads to the tail motor the main went full power?( I think it did anyway) Something bad happened the whole heli jumped and i heard the main gear protest.

That is strange. My guess would be that it caused some sort of RF interference that caused the throttle to glitch or something similar.

At any rate, you should unplug the main motor from the ESC when doing that sort of test!

You mentioned that you have a DD tail motor (DD stands for direct drive). I've heard that the DD motor is better than the stock motor, but still wears out pretty quickly (though lasts much longer than stock motors).

I have the dual tail motor mod wired in parallel. I've had that in place for a month or two now, and both motors are still going strong. I think the dual motor mod is better than the DD in my opinion...
