Default Falcon 3D Tail Problems

Hey all,

Ive just purchased my new Falcon and have hovered it around prob 5 times or so and am very happy with it, the blades clipped the ground when i was coming down for a landing and the blade hit the boom and damaged it a little but was able to bent back straight, i ran one mopre battery through it and packed it away, now when i power up it wants to spin on the spot? ive tried playing the servo mount and turning gain up etc but with no luck...Has anyone eles had problems like this?

Any help would be appreciated...

u sure the tail spins freely? make sure there isnt any binding. make sure it didnt break the boom shaft (when you still the tail it should spin the main blades as well) i would go ahead and order some 2212 archery arrows, they work perfect to replace to tail boom and they are a lot cheaper than buying a new one. ive got one on my falcon right now because i had a boom strike and bent the boom pretty bad and already had the arrows so i just replaced it. i just bought two arrows when i was ordering all my spare parts, each arrow makes two booms. all you have to do when you get it, is measure it out and cut it at 14 3/16" is its perfect.

those are the arrows im talking about. also you might want to check out darksides webpage, has a lot of good information about falcon upgrades/replacements.

I can't say for sure what is going on but as you have moved the servo mount you may have caused an issue there other than your initial problem.

Don't know much about the electronics in the falcon but try doing it something like this.

1. Remove the pushrod off the ball link at the tail servo.

2. Loosen up the tail servo mount (so you can slide the servo up and down the boom as needed)

3. disconnect main motor wires (or be careful not to hit the throttle if you skip this step)

4. turn the heli and radio on.

5. The tail servo should center up to neutral.

6. Manually move the push rod and look at the pitch range on the tail blades, you want to move this pushrod so the tail is at the midpoint of its travel. That way, you have an equal amount of movement when you push and pull the rod. Basically, you are centering up the tail so you get about 0 degrees of pitch when the servo is in the neutral (centered) position.

7. When you get the tail centered, keep it that way and then slide the servo up or down the boom to the point where it can snap on to the link and keep the blade pitch at 0 degrees.

8. Tighten everything back down. Check operation. Belt drive, check that by trying to turn the main rotor blades opposite the tail rotor blades. You shouldn't be able to, if it slips then you need to tighten up the belt.

I cant say what your gyro settings were before you changed things but try and put it back where it was and do the above.

You could just loosen the tail servo I suppose and then slide it while connected to get things all centered up but the above is how I do it.

See if that helps

Check the carbon drive shaft rod keyed end that has a small gear on the end which meshes with the main gear. On some original driveshafts this keyed end goes limp and the small gear attached to it will not be performing its job. Newer replacement carbon driveshafts are now being manufactured with a more beefier keyed end which is less likey to become damaged from a hard landing or main rotor boom strike. I have had this problem as you and changing the driveshaft fixed the problem. You might be able to fix the keyed end yourself by wicking the keyed end with CA and then let it dry completely before attaching the small gear. Best to order a new one though. The other thing is to check the geometry of your tail servo linkage that it is 90 degrees to the shaft at neutral trim both ends of linkage. Lastly, check the Tail Rotor hub setscrews that both are tight on the tail shaft. After everything is working again, recommend you take out one setscrew at a time and locktite. Alot of Falcon users have replaced all the Falcon 3D setscrews in the main shaft and the tail hub with 3 x 3 MM stainless setscrews. The chinese stock setscrews are prone to failure. You can get the stainless setscrews from RCSCREWS.COM. Come join us on the Falcon 3D thread here on RC Universe. Many users and many posts to help you.

V1 had a reduced diameter driveshaft end and a 18 amp ESC.
V2 had the larger diameter driveshaft end and a 30 amp ESC.
