it's amazing that only 10% of the crashes were due to pilot error. lots of talent out there, lots of defective parts, lots of unforeseeable weather conditions. gimme a break.

Cool site, I posted my latest crash there. Of course most of the crashes posted will be due to mechanical failure, pilot error you know what happened, and no need to tell anybody about it

I must be a master craftsman or something like that as I've NEVER had a crash that wasn't my due to my dumb thumbs. Along the same lines, when I was dirt racing, I only had one engine failure and no mechanical failures but many crashes, again all my fault. On second thought many of the crashes were the other guys fault.

Well, Mastercraftsman or not, if you aren't crashing, you aren't flying....I fly approx 2 gallons of fuel a week, so sooner or later I expect to crash, for whatever reason.....Coop

I can safely say that all of the crashes I have had with RC helicopters (1 with my poor dead Shuttle Z and 3 with my Raptor 50) have ALL been due to pilot error. Of course, getting the Raptor back in the air (the Shuttle was a total and complete lose) was due to pilot mechanical knowledge!

Did anyone read this one. I don't think the person was serious , so I guess it is okay to laugh.

Details:
Crash Date: july 4, 2000
Weather: windy, raining, Hurricane like conditions
Time of day: 2 a.m.
Aircraft: Raptor
Problem: after about 14 seconds of nothing but smoke and fire, The helicopter started to speedily drive its way into the Anal Region of me. I started to run, but a goat's leg was in the way. I tripped and the chopper drilled my anus. A fire spread and I recieved 3rd degree burns on the lower back region, and a busted Chopper.
Cause:Failure to obtain a true engine. I tweaked my lawn mower's engine to power it to speeds of up to 7 knots. I guess it also should have been made into a more aerodynamic shape, not in the shape of a box.
Damage: An injured anus, and A busted up chooper. (most parts still up my butt)
Comments: Maybe I should buy an anal cup. And maybe I shouldn't fly in hurricane like conditions. Other than that, I think I learend my lesson.

<<...if you aren't crashing, you aren't flying...>>
Coop, perhaps you should amend that to say, "If you aren't crashing, then you aren't pushing the envelope"???
Believe it or not, some of us have no desire to do 3F and are perfectly content to putter around the patch upright, and slowly.<G>

Steve....Thats what I meant...I too am content to just fly around, 3F is nice to watch, I admire the skill necessary to do it, but I am more into making the heli fly scale. And when I crash, I do that scale too. Crashing is the only part of scale that I have mastered <G>... .....Coop

I don't know if this qualifies as pilot error. But it is a true story.
A couple years ago when I was just a newbe (I still am), I was getting some help from a very experienced friend who was there to help me with some FF basics. We were flying my Raptor 30 and I handed him the Tx after I started getting fustrated while the heli was in flight. I had my back turned as he started flying it around as I was taking a breather. Next thing I know he starts saying I "I don't have it" I turn around and I see him looking at heli in the sky and feeling the ground looking for the tx battery that just fell out of the back of the tx. The raptor hauls by us full speed about 80 ft in the air and plows into a tree about 100 yards away next to fence that encompasses the park we were at. Just as the heli hit the tree a fire truck with its lights on goes down the road just behind the exact spot where the heli hit. If not for the tree and fence it might have hit the fire truck.
After a basic crash kit repair the raptor was back in the air. I have since had the tx repaired.
I swear it is a true story.
