ok.... my servo on my GY601 has pretty much broken...
do i
1. try get futaba to fix it, and pay the bill, as its 2nd hand and the waranty is probably over
2. get a new 9251 servo at like £100 [
]
3. buy a much less complicated GY401 and use a hitec 925 servo
4. buy a GY401 and 9254 servo...
the 601 is good, but its pretty complicate for a noob like me, and the 401 seems a very popular choice
any opinions??

dude.. the servo is pretty much shot lol
i think ill go for a 401 to be honest... its much less complicated, its fairly cheap, and it doesnt require expensive gyro specific servos

it would take a while, and id like to have a gyro this week...
plus i have no come back if anything happens...
also, is it smart for me to straight trade a 601 gyro for a 401 gyro considering the price difference
im keeping an eye on something on ebay at the mo , so il think about it

If it where me, I would get a second servo and use the 601. There is no beating that Gyro. The 401 with the 9253 or 54 are a great combination as well. If you are just learning I would get the 401 combo and fly it. Save the 601 for a day when you want a better gyro for a second machine in a larger size.
What ever you do, do yourself a favor, only use a Futaba servo (9254 or 9253) with the 401. The pulse rate on the digital setting on that gyro and servo combo are matched and no other company produces a digital servo that can be ran in digital mode on the 401.
BTW what did you do to the servo to kill it? It it's a gear set they aren't to bad a price.

well the servo got fried.....
one of the servo wires got badly nicked, and for safety sake, i replaced it... it was soldered well, but my soldering iron must have been too powerful as it fried something or other on the chip board....
we live by what we learn though [
]
the thing is, id rather cut my losses at the end of the day.... i know the 401 ist as good as the 601, but a lot of people use it with no problems, plus im more for a less comlicated gyro....lol
i will see... if i buy a new servo, or just buy a new 401, then thats my money gone that i had for a sim

sceadu37, let me assure you that barracudahockey is an honest guy. Heck he took a chance on me sending me an OS50 engine to try out and see if I liked it. Then he sent me a set of li-po batteries for my 3D park flier and said check these out(condition was unknown) if they work we'll work out a price and if they don't trash them for me.
FWIW, I have never met Andy in person, I'd like to someday but he lives about 500 miles from me. I talk to him on the R/C forums quite often these days though. If he says he'll do something, he'll do it.
You might also notice that he is a Heli Forum Moderator so you can be sure he's not going anywhere.

It will take a while that's true. You're right on the 9254 as well. I have the 401/9254 combo and it's excellent. In anycase, don't let not knowing him play a factor in the discision.

Follow this setup when you get your 401 and its pretty hard to screw it up.

On Ebay its worth whatever someone will pay for it.

ATV is adjustable Travel Volume, or End Points or EPA End Point Adjust.
Basically the gain is set by changing the travel volume or throw on the gear channel.
The piro rate is controlled by the atv or travel volume on the rudder channel.
The travel limit of the servo itself is set on the gyro using a pot.
