What would be considered the minimum servo speed and torque for the freya EX?
I was looking at either the Futaba 9250's or 9252's. Would either be a good choice? Would the speed be better or the torque. Or maybe a mix of the 2? I'm really not sure what controls on a heli require the extra speed or torque.
Or would both of these servo's be considered "overkill".
9250 Troq-76oz Speed-0.11
9252 Torq-92oz Speed-0.14
I've already got the GY-502 Gyro with 9253 servo so that's a given.

MrDHEJ, I would go with the 9252 on the elevator, and ailerons. 9204 or 9206 on collective, and you will be fine. You dont need more speed than the 9252's put out, but the added torque on the collective is great to have. Consider the Hitec 525BB on the throttle, it works great, and then your 9253 on the tail. I have this setup on both a Freya/YS80, and a Raptor 70 with no problems. Daz...

This is probably way overkill for this heli and myself, but i'd much rather have to much then to little. Normally i would just throw Hitec 5945's "152oz 0.16sec" on everything and forget about it, but it's been 5 or 6 years since i've used futaba servo's and thought i'd try them out again.
Hey Daz, where bouts in ohio you live? I used to live in the Columbus / Amanda area some years back. I still go up there quite a bit still to visit family.

MrDHEJ, that sounds good to me. I live just outside of Cleveland in Bedford hts, and our field is located in Garfield hts Ohio. I think you will be happier with the Futaba servo's as they are maintenance free, and just plain good servos. The Freya is also an excellent bird, mine has been trouble free since day one, Daz...

If you were on a budget, or just didnt want to spend that kinda money on servo's, you could use the Futaba 9202 servos which are analog, a little slow, but has over 90 oz. torque, and they would work fine. However the Futaba 9202 servos still cost approx. $50 each, so its really not that much difference in price. I get my 9252 servo's for $75 each, and the 9204 for $80. Daz...

So in all reality, when it comes to helicopters there is no "cheap way" for electronics.
The reason I’m asking is because I work for my LHS and I’m in charge of what we sell in the RC department, and I’ve wanted to broaden our RC selection to helicopters. I hate selling stuff to our customers that I don't know anything about. So the easiest way for me to learn is to have a helicopter myself "This was a great excuse to the wife to get a helicopter BTW"
We are the only local Hirobo dealer in this area, and I’m trying to get a good combo for the new pilot that will not be too expensive, but be of high quality.
Personally I am going to learn to Hover with the 60 Freya, Would the 30 size class ships be quite a bit cheaper overall?

With a 30 size Heli, you can use std servos such as the JR537's, or Futaba 3004 without any problems. Maybe when a heli pilot really starts to push some heavy 3D manuevers with a 30 size Heli he may want to upgrade from std servo's.
With a 60 size ship there is no real way of getting around from using the more expensive servos, and with the cost of a 60 size heli it wouldnt be worth risking it with std servo's. With a 50 size ship I wouldnt recommend std servos either, again I would go with the 9202's and up.

Out here in the Dallas area, there are a number of us using the JR8231 digitals on the Freya, including some pretty good 3D pilots and they have been working out quite well.
