Default motor / ESC timing

Need some advise on timing, I think....

I have a brushless motor that the specs tell me should draw 20A and produce 200W. This motor is installed on a HK 250, with a 40A ESC. during testing I have placed my Watt's up meter and found something else.

Under 1/2 throttle is am drawing 56A, and developing 540w, and the motor and ESC is HOT!

The spec's on the motor are:

Turgeny E500, 6T, 4000Kv, with 11 tooth pinion

I have checked all rotos for binding and have found NO defects in the Heli.

The ESC is set up for the following:

break off
Li PO battery
cut off mode - cut/off
start mode - super soft
timing - high

Anyone got any suggestions?

Would timing issues cause over heating and high current draw?

Larry

Check the pinion gear to main drive gear clearance? The motor will draw excess current if they are too tight.
