Need a litttle more info. What do you mean (THEY) and (SHOES)? There should only be one shoes and it shouldn't be loose. If you have movment on the shoe you should find out why. What do you have for a heli? My Raptor has 2 screws that hold it on and there is no play in it, and yes I would use locktite. I use the blue stuff so you can take it apart if you have to.

HI Bart,

If you are refering to the Nexus clutch, yes the screws should be tight and I use a small amount of the blue locktite.

It is the Nexus. I removed the engine and pulled down the starter shaft and clutch. I am brand new to this so I had no idea what the clutch was at the time, but I new the starter shaft was shot. When the shaft arrived and I went to replace everythin ie. engine, clutch, and starter I figured I would make sure the screws were tight. That was when I noticed that the shoe(s) was loose and the screws were not too tight. I thought that might be by design because of the manner in which a clutch works, but thought I would ask anyway.

Regarding the shoe itself. I either have two shoes or I have one shoe that has cracked in half and looks like two shoes held by one screw each. I do not have a manual, hence the question. Is my shoe broken in two or are there two shoes in a Nexus clutch. Thanx in advance for your patience and response.

I would say your shoe is broken. The shoe should be one solid peace, and two screws hold it on.

Hi Bart,

If you have the standard Nexus clutch, then yes. The machine has two clutch shoes. Each secured by a 3x6mm screw. There were at least two different clutch shoe designs for the Nexus clutch. The early model style clutch shoe was a black anodized metal shoe. The newer style shoe is a silver colored metal shoe and is designed with the half moon cut out mounted and facing towards the center portion of the fan. I have used both styles of shoe on my machine. The old style clutch shoe's would work harden and break in the weakest portion of the shoe which was inside the half moon cut out's. I only have about 10 hours on the new style clutch shoe's and will see if they last any longer than the old style. As mentioned before, use a small amount of the blue locktite on the screws. I hope this helps a little bit. I wish you well and many happy landings.

Was the black anodized the "two shoes" with one screw each?
