Smoke :
I set up the prowerbox pump with diesel as smoke fluid , and got to test the smoke todayfor the first time on the ground only
when at either full or half throttle , i got puffs of smoke, but not consistent smoke, and it really was not that thick
anyone know why it puffs on and off -also not sure of the smoke was that thick when it did come out

using stainless pipe from Motors and rotors, so the shape of the exit should be good
right now not using a graph- just direct switch for on off (-100 off / 0 (would be half power pump and +100 for full pump)
how close or far am i supposed to have the tip from the cone of the turbine (right now it is 2.5cm from the exit of the turbine - centered - and maybe a few millimeters into the thurst tube(after the carbon bell))

Diesel is never that good. Your set up sounds OK, you could move the smoke tube exit back so its a bit further behind. 4cm

Curious, has anyone had any experience with the electric gear/brake package combo for the ultra flash available from dreamworks ? I'm always up for giving something new a try and I really like the idea of electric brakes and retracts.

I've ordered the electric gear/brake combo from Dreamworks and the package arrived today.
upon initial inspection the units appear well built, I plan to install them tomorrow so will come back with a report once they are installed and working.

At this stage I'm planning to do the maiden flight this weekend.

Since I have three Ultra Flashes to do, I thought I'd share my canopy fixing method. Everyone is different, but this one works for me.

Out of the box the canopy frame has a joint tape, this needs Dremelling down, I use a sanding drum and a tapered stone for the front. I also go around the frame with the drum sander and remove all the lumps and un-even thickness.
Then I cut the glass to size, leaving only 5mm at the front and 12-15mm at the rear.
I then fit the frame with the front rod and pull back and tape the rear to get an even gap.

Thread the glass in by squeezing it clear of the frame, so as not to scratch and pop it into place. Lift it and check it sits with no gap front and back. Move it forward slighly and place a dob of ZAP 20 centre of the glass front and back. Slide the glass back and gently insert the front before lifting the rear-hold it in position and kick with an O type kicker (weaker version-NOT std Zap kicker its too strong and will fog the glass)

Once dry you can remove the frame as the gap will stay and with finger and thumb inside, around the frame loop position roll/push the glass up until the is no gap on the hoop. Squeezing one side hard put some ZAP 20 on the inside glass edge-frame joint and kick. Do the other side and there should be no hoop gap.
Put the frame back on and check you have not twisted the frame/canopy and if all good remove again and tack inside every 2" alternate sides, each time placing it back on the model to check for twists.
Once complete I run around the inside with ZAP 560 canopy glue to seal down the glass....done!

Yes, its weaker and won't fog the canopy. You must use ZAP 20 too, anything else too thin.
Did the second of three I have to do yesterday, I ran a black marker on the frame cut edge to get rid of the white line before gluing the screen in.

Finally did my weight and balance on my UF.

Balance point between 225 and 230mm.

Weight with smoke tanks, pump, and battery for the smoke pump, 22 lbs 12 oz's. Not to bad.

All that is left is to prime the fuel line and set the KT 140 up with the transmitter.

Hopefully next week to finally get it in the air.

I love the paint scheme on mine.

I am undecided as to darken the canopy. I like they way they look darkened but the sun here in AZ gets pretty hot here in the summer.

Finally got my 2nd day of flying the UF. I live in Washington and it rains a lot here. Great airplane. Built per instructions. P140RX. Saddle tanks, wing tank is smoke. Using a PB smoke pump with a single Tams stick (the new one with the little tab on the end). Tons of smoke with Super Dry and is light on fluid use. Photos below - some aren't so great, but I work with what I'm given!

I'm running exactly that set up. I have not changed the settings since 2010 when I wrote that section. For me and many others it works perfectly, some people like Ali prefer CROW and less flap. I have flown a few UF models set up that way and I found although it changed the sit to a nose high position, so scrubbing speed that way, the 'drop off' was more sudden just before touch down.
So it really depends on you landing style. The UF will touch down with very little ground speed.
I would say with the stock set up its important to set the flap-elevator compensation so the aeroplane stays level at full flap. I watched someone bounce their UF several times last week because the nose was slightly down and I don't think they were holding off enough. The UF has plenty of elevator authority, its not like a Bandit where you are hauling on the elevator on touchdown.

Can't say there is a right or wrong. Movement wise those settings are quite responsive, so if you like a softer response, reduce them down a bit-Ailerons especially.
