RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
The only reason I asked if the stock felt clunk was sufficient is that the UF isn't rated to handle 36lbs worth of fuel flow. Just trying to eliminate any potential issues before they manifest at an inopportune time.

the only issue i had was the felt clunk in the wing tank caused excessive pressure on the main tank during fueling (may not be an issue with the dual conformal tanks tough). i swapped to dubro heavy clunks and still had more pressure in the main tank then i liked so the fix was to use a pair of quick connects (pics below) between the wing/main tank where i can fuel the wing tank first, then the main, this eliminated the pressure. the quick connects also seal the wing tank when it's not connected to the fuze.

What if you drill holes in the wheels Dave?
What if you drill holes in the wheels Dave?
I've used twin stock CARF supplied clunks in everything from my three Flashes, Lightning (P-160)-500 flights, My 3-D Universe Eurosport (3 tanks all with felt clunks) and all have normal voltages and been 100%.
It goes back to my comments some time back about people looking at the hole size in the fuel valves and JC F-30 filters...

I have the same problem with overpressurizing the main tank when the wing starts to fill. Have to stop fueling about 5 times before the wing is full. Where did you get the quick disconnects for the fuel lines? Thanks.

I put the first three flights on my new Ultra Flash tonight. Flies great. It is going to need a little opposite aileron with rudder, I will need to tweek the throws to suit me. It is going to be a great jet.

Ali, OK a few post back you teased us without saying what your favorite UF / Turbine combination. Is it the 100 size or the 140 or the 160. Let's hear it!
On another topic I tried the vt80 in the 2m viper and it performs great. But I think the vt80 would not be enough HP for the UF.

What rate do you fill at? I use a variable rate EvoJet fueller and fill at half rate where I don't get any pressure issues.

I'm using a Greylor 12v pump at 6 volts, most tanks aren't a problem but the Flash tank is thin and makes lots of popping/cracking noises, it may be fine but I'm not gonna chance it.

Hi Ali,
p160SX with the full bypass. It has a bit of a howl through the air even at 1/3 throttle. Not sure what is making that noise. It makes my Ultra Lightning/P200 seem slow. Or maybe its because all I have been flying for the last month is the Turbinator/P100 and my Habu32.

Nice one Tony. What do you have for power

Of the 2 Flashes I have 1 makes a howling and the other does not, setup is the same between the two and motors have been switched once with no difference, I am not going to worry about as if flys great.

Dave,
I'm using a 7.2v pack with no restrictions. About 20 seconds after the fuselage tank fills and the fuel starts flowing to the wing tank I can no longer move the fuselage tank inside the fuselage because it has swelled. So, I shut off the fueling, wait about 10 seconds and repeat the process.

Gus

I already have logged 21 flights with my UF, but I am still experiencing landing problems. I have broken the leg pins on several hard landings. It seems that, either I do the approach too slow and then the plane drops suddenly on the tarmac or I come in too fast and get a bounce. What is the correct landing setup and procedure?
This is only my second jet. I spend last year training with an Aviation Design Phoenix and after 100 flights I transitioned to the UF. Any suggestion is welcome.

Latest 4 flights I had a wonderful landing ,Were similar kyosho calmato. LOL
Her is my setup :
Rudder 45 mm
Elev 15 UP 16 Down mm
Ail 15 UP 18 Down mm
Flap 60 mm for landing(No need flap for Takeoff ( p160sx )) with mixing Elev 4 mm Down and ail 5 mm UP.
The C.G 225 mm
Happy landing

Thanks for the quick response. I will try your setup and see how it handles. I had 80 mm flap and no crow. The CG is right at 225 mm.
How fast you do the approach and how far from the runway do you chop the throttle?
Our landing strip is tarmac, about 150 m long and 8m wide.

Jose

Happy Holidays/Christmas
It's normal that the tank becomes snug, but the fuselage should not "creek" A new fuse tank can be expanded with a fairly light pressure from your mouth. I guess it depends on the fit in the fuselage, I set the tank plates with the tank 5mm further back than ideal and then slide it forwards before putting in the vertical retainer (or pack the tank while the plates set)
The fuse is pretty tough.

Jose.
I find that reducing the amount of flap used for landing and compensating it some crow ( Both ailerons up 4-6mm) improved the way the model landed for me. I found that with too much flap it was quite easy to misjudge the power required to " balance' the model in the landing configuration. The crow set up keeps the drag required as well as changing the angle of attack.
