L 29 Delfin Race Jet

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
Yes, it is a Behotec 180Gold, which will be more than needed for this model. Probably 1/3 to 1/2 throttle during flight (just as my MIG-15)
As for final colour scheme on my model, this as my favorite:

Hello Guys,
our Prototype has an 74 Frank turbine in with about 170 Newton and we fly this also with an 16 Jet Cat, Full power.... it is scary when you go by with about 350 Km/h (220 Mph) but also fun....

Hello Chrigui,
yes... the good thing on this plane.... it flies perfect no matter you want to go slow or fast, also very good aerobathic plane... Everybody can have fun with this plane. I love it.

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
The weather was nice today, and I got a chance to maiden my L29. It was a success
This model handles very nice, and the recommended throws from the manual feels perfect. I added 30% expo rudder, 35% on both elevator and aileron.
I did not use full power at any time, not even on takeoff...the model almost jump in the air as the Behotec 180G spooled up. I reduced the power before it got airborn, and most of the short maiden flight (3 1/2 min) was done with the throttle between idle and 1/3. This model has a wide range of turbines to choose from. I fly my C-arf MIG-15 with a P80se, and this
L29 will fly nicely with any 10kg/20Lbs turbine and up. I felt I had very good elevator authority during the landing. I felt the speed was low when I started the flare, only to find out that
here was lots of more energy left. In other words, this model can be slowed down to unusually low speeds while maintaining control
Now I need to figure out a way to attach the wing tip tanks, as I want to make them removable, suggestions are welcome. The under wing tanks are easy, just need to make a some
hardpoints in the wing.
Sorry but no flight video, only some pics (and one short clip of my cool pilot)

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
Hello Kimhey and Chrigui
Congratulations for the excellent work done on your models.
Christiano
Will you fly your L29 at Ozzano Radio Model Show ?
I live in Rijeka ( Fiume ) - Cro. , and this year it will be the fifth time I'am visiting Ozzano Radio Model Show.
Also It would be nice to meet such a skilled modeler and exchange a few words with you.
Regards
Dragan

I have edited my last post Chrisgui....as you see I did not use much
Very clean installation by the way! Not that I am an expert, but is the distance between the your turbine and pipe a bit long? I have been told that a back pressure can develop if the distance is too long. Might be different from different manufacturer, but I have my turbine 2-3cm into the "bell"/pipe..

nice Dragan... we can meet in OZZANO !! i live 30 min car from Ozzano airfield..
kim.. : like last test this is best layout find on 160 but the engine position is not definitive :-)
how much flap do you have used at landing?

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
Chrisgui,
I used almost 90 degrees flaps, on all 4 flaps. Elevator mixed in with 7mm up deflection. I used no flaps for takeoff, but tried "half" flap during flight. Half flaps on my setup is more like 30 degrees, and I had 3mm up elevator mixed in. That was a tiny bit too much, so I need to dial it down to 1.5-2mm and see.
All my mixing is done with the CG set 1cm behind recommended CG. The model was not particualry light on the nose on takeoff (about 1/2 tank ie +2L), but more so when taxiing back to the pit after landing. There were spots of ice patches and ice lumbs on the asphalt runway, which made the light weighted nose more apparent. On a smooth surface, the model would probably sit nicely on all its wheels even with very little fuel in the main tank. Again, take into consideration that my CG is 1cm behind what the manual suggests
The Behotec 180G that Iam using has almost 1kg of residual thrust (idle), and I definately felt the need for almost 90 degrees flaps, or shall we call it speedbrakes
(Thanks for the input on the JC160 vs distance to the pipe....I am happy to still learn new things)

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
ok...many thanks for info about setting
the distance is not only for jetcat but for most engine also..
if the exaust cone is much into the trust tube .. you could find less trust
and high egt..
sorry for my bad english....[]

Hello Chrisgui,
No ballast in the nose, my model is maybe a bit less noseheavy than what the instructions states. When the main tank is empty (UAT full), my model is very light on the nose wheel.
Still I need 2mm of uptrim on elevator to fly straight an level.

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
Here is a short video of todays flying. Only one flight, as I had problems with the nose wheel gear failing to extend. My fault, as I had installed air restrictors since last time, on order to get smoother (more scale-ish) retraction and extraction of the gear. Worked at home and on ground at the field, but NOT in the air....
The damage was minor, as the speed at which the nose touched the rwy, was very slow Only a small scratch luckily.
The air restrictors are now removed, and I am ready for more flights!
Here is the link to the video, sorry for the poor quality, but I was on my own and had to use my hat-camera.....

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
mhhhhhhhhhhh.... very nice video ..!!
mine model need some ballast on the nose... but i have not extra work or components on the rear fuselage..
do you have heavy battery on the nose?
can you give me wing tank pylon position screw??

Jeah.....
you rockt it...
very nice flight, and very short time to get the L29 in the air....
Compliment.... I like to see more... the takeoff was very short... can you tell me the weight... dry...
We had the Prototype with shorter Thrust pipe and turbine mounted far in the back, with 1,5 Kg on ballast in the nose with 19 Kg dry on the runway.... but it was fly very nice liek you can see on the video
L29 Prototype: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzv7a_SB1Xc
then we moved the turbine as much in front like we can and the wood we did not need get out, so some people have an dry weight arround 15,4-15,8 Kg much lighter than the prototype... you can see on the start Kim is not very heavy.... short start.... ok not so short like the one from my T2.... this was something like an allert start on bunjee.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI540Qfy2Kw
I almost had an hardattac.... my pilot to.... thanks jens for safe the model... on the second flight... and yes do not try this at home ;-) we had 2 Turbines with each 200 Thrust in there, so 40 Kilo thrust on 24 Kg weight..... we built back to one turbine and 1 in 2 Thrust pipe....

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
@ Racerbuilder: Wow...that T2 takeoff was scary. I will try to weigh my L-29 tomorrow.....
@Chrisgui: I have 2 X 2s5000mAh lipos in the nose wheel bay. The tray I made for the turbine batteries is removed, as that location made the model a bit nose heavy for me. I have placed the turbine batteries (2 x 3s4000mAh...yeah I know, more than enough, but nice to have in the cold Norwegian winter temperatures) at the backmost end of the big tray in the cockpit.

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet
@Racerbuilder:
With UAT full, main tank completely empty
2x2s5000mAh (540gr total) rx battery
2x3s4000mAh (710gr total) turbine battery,
my L-29 weighs 16.1kg dry. Full tank adds 3.6kg (4.5L x 0.8 specific jet A1 weight) and gives a ready for takeoff weight just under 20kg..
I could have used smaller batteries, but it is better to have too much and not need it, than to need it and not have it
The extra weight is no issue with this model!
