Good idea Fritz!
I should have thought of that ! And now I have painted the tank
Well maybe I will get another tank from Thomas at JP, and reinforce that

Carsten, Maybe Thomas could do a heavier tank layup at the factory....

Hi Guys,

I am putting my Futura together now. Could some one please post a picture of the rudder hinge points. I have bought the Futura version where you have to build and mount everything, with the aid of the Tomahawk supplied CD photo disc. There are no photos of what the ply rudder hinges should look like once installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks, Adam.

Also has anyone seen the new nose wheel retract that Thomas now supplies with the latest kits? Any info?

Adam,

From memory, once you have measured and marked positions for the hinge blocks it will look like you have done something wrong and that you can't get the rudder on! You need to turn the rudder to max deflection in order to get it in and on the hinge blocks so the pin can go through. Bit fiddly but does work out fine!

Rgds,
Mark

Hi Adams,

My 2.50m Futura isued from basic kit has just fly one month ago. It's lots of work from basic kit to do it right, but it's stressless for the first flight as you are sure about your glueings. Structure from Tomahawk is perfect.

Some photo of my rudder. In fact it's more simple to do that it seems, but impressive to cut on this beautiful airex... Glue is epoxy resin plus micro-ball.

Mark you are right... Mine can only go out by one side, not the other, with a special and precise angle...[&:]. A tip , My rudder is not really centered on the space, but sighly on the down side of the plane. This put some space on the high side for the movement but is not really an help for dismantle of the rudder... []

Wow, thanks guys for the fast replies!

These photos are just what I needed.

I am on the right track. I have tac glued my hinge points to the fin with Gorilla glue. After seeing the above photos I am now confident to aeropoxy the pieces in.

Mark,

you are right, I have to shoe horn my rudder onto the posts. I had to open up the holes where the wire rod passes through the fin as I managed a small mis- alignment which would not allow the trailing edge of the rudder to align with the trailing edge of the fin. After a little work with the file, all seems to be spot on.

Nhalyn,

Great to hear your model has flown!

I am a slow builder, I am also putting on the vinyl that I purchased from Duncan, myself. So my Futura will not fly for a while.

Learning to lay vinyl takes some thought but seems to be going OK! Duncan has given me some great tips.

Thank you all, I appreciate your help,

Adam.

Hi Carsten,

Like you I went with a F1 Motor theme for my Futura. I hope you don't mind me posting it here.

Regards, Adam.

Hi Guys,
Sorry my picture did not load on the above post.
I have had a lot of trouble accessing this page. I hope my photo has downloaded this time.

Here is my model minus the fin. The fin was with Duncan when this photo was taken. I applied the vinyl myself. The fin did not turn out that good so I had Duncan fix it for me. It is perfect now.

Regards, Adam.

Nice one Adam, like the way the red panel makes the cockpit canopy area more 'pleasing' in my oppinion - cool scheme.

Thanks Marc,

The fin is also red and I think it balances the scheme well.
The attached photo is the sketch compalation that I gave to Duncan. Duncan then cut the vinyls for me.
I picked them up whilst I was on a trip to the UK.

Adam.

Hi Duncan,

I know I am slow

But in my defence, I have not been home much. The model flying weather has been great when I have been home.
The Futura should fly in a week or two.

Regards, Adam.

I was out this weekend flying with a bunch of guys, one of them, Gorm Jensen, had a big camera with a looong and big lens
The vinyl looks the same as when I received the plane from Duncan, still perfect!
When getting greasy fingers on it, I just take out the "Turtle Wax Extreme Nato Tech", and the plane is nice and shiny again [8D]

Glad to see it's still looking great. I have a few customer waiting for vinyl at the minute, so it's great to know that it's lasting well on your Futura

cheers
