Marc,
Not wishing to sound negative as well but can you expand on why you think the bubble trap idea needs to be "fixed" when firstly it is only really a second stage peace of mind device but it also works fantastically well for the purpose intended?
It would seem to me less "square peg in a round hole" and more "re inventing the wheel"?
Could you tell us what you think could be better about this system, as of course ideas that solve a problem or make things easier are always welcomed by the community?

Colin,
I am not re-inventing the wheel as it works fine, my use of 'better' is probably the wrong word to have used, however it just seems to me that paying for a set of Ferrari alloys when something more 'economical' but still round will do the job is worth a little investigating. I'm just looking to see if a more economical variant is possible so people can choose how much they want to spend.

[>:][>:][>:]this started as a question about price of jet bits having just read DG post on JMA i can only say thats the sort of thing that will drive prices up as we all have to have the latest approved piece of kit to keeop our models in the air, think we have to stop this habit of making rules up to goven ourselves.there are plenty of bodies that will make the rules become law.lets stop this before we rule ourselves out of existance.soon we wont get any new comers to this hobby unless they can afford to buy all the battery backers and god knows what else DG thinks we need to keep our models safe.

Have been reading this thread with great interest,by the way sorry Mike I don't post very often either.

Itseems to me modellers can make their own minds up whether they spend £50 on a fod screen or use a tea strainer from the pound shop, but they should not moan about others who want to use the expensive "tasty" equipment on their models.

Car owners spend hundreds on their alloy wheels, doesn't make the car go faster or any better, but it sure makes it look well .

I personally have the experience that if you spend extra on the real good quality item it repays you time and time again, all my jets have certainly the best servos, batteryBackers, retracts, that I can afford,a lot more money admittedly, but they give me peace of mind as well as looking the part.

A modeller Saving a few hundred pounds on a jet or any other model does not bother me as long as the installation is well done and looks safe.

As for the guys who run the specialist model shops for Jet Jockies, thumbs up to them!!

I have been dealing with DW now for quite a while,he says what he thinks, and I like that,

the difference is,

you have a query he can give you the answer ,you can then make your mind up based on his advice,

not just a model shop,he is an advice centre open all hours!!,

and I have never seen a CHARGE FOR THAT!!

Bloody well said - sums up this debate nicely, unlike the individual calling himself 'bigplumbs' that just seems to want to antagonise others.
We buy what we like and hopefully therefore like what we buy.

you call 29 euro,s for a UAT a lot?
let me sum it up for you:
strainer aout 3,50 usd if you take a thousand or so (no freight or import added)
Festo 2.50
bottle 3.5 euro,s
teflon tape
1 meter of copper alloy round 10 to make the nipples about 8 euro,s a meter (24 nipples)
washer copper alloy for everydisk you make on the lathe ,2 are wasted by the cutting tool same price as the nipples.
Alloy uat part about 1.50 a piece
machine hours i dont count, since i own my own CNC for this , but if i have to have them made its about 90-120 euro,s a hour.
1 nipple on my machine is about 2 minutes , from loading to threaded and cut.
all of this is with no vat added.
Labour : about 15-20 minutes to assemble one and test it on leakes.
now please be my guest to calculate it and see what is left of it..
i wouldnt quit your job yet :-)

I think your UAT is very good money/value, I'm looking at other ideas thats all, diversity and exercising the grey matter ;-)
Good luck on you new venture sounds very exciting.

Sandor your UAT at 29euro (£25stg) is it's correct value, it is the exact same thing as another at £60stg (actually I have seen one advertised at £75).
This is probably a good example for the reason this thread was started in the first place
If the retailers said sorry we can no longer stock yours as we can buy the same thing at half price, then other manufacturers may decide to re look at there pricing.

Problem is ....Retailers tell wholesalers and manufacturers we wont stock your item because we can find it cheaper elsewhere,
they then cut their price and the whole thing ends up like a bag of crisps,
less food, same price,in big bag and blown up full of air !!

Dude, yes jet "tidbits" do cost alot. I remember that when I had a fleet of jets, I was spending almost $1000 USD a month keeping them up, buying this or that.
The UAT is a perfect example. I have tried some other VERY reputable brands and have even liked them. But like dating when you're single, they are necessary evils in my book. And like dating, they are about $100 a pop!

Expensive for sure.

Prices for jet related products have never been cheap. Any of us that have decided to make the transition to jets already knew that. All you can do is either accept it ,or get out. I personally wil just keep supporting the great people at BVM and Dreamworks.

If you actually knew what some of these big name jets kits were being made for, you would have a totally different view on the some of the rip off manufactures.
Yes we ARE being taken a piss at! and just because you can afford to spend it, dos'nt mean you should, just because you think if it's expensive it is better.

Nobody has yet mentioned some of the exessive 'package and post' charges. I wanted to buy a nalgene replacement bottle from a supplier and cancelled because the postage charge was so high. Some suppliers advertise very competetive prices but when you add on the postal charges they are far less than good value.. Why can't we have postage at cost? Ron. (a pensioner)
