Our F16 will have a custom set of struts that have a trailing link strut action for grass fields and ease of landing it works great and has been tested now for ever 60 flights and is going great.

That will be good, these are really sport scale jets and too many others have scale type landing gear which are not practical, trailing link is the secret for grass.

whoa whoa whoa....... now waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute!

Henry, I was just starting to salivate at you redoing a Cermark-ish F-16! The 1/8th is a great size and will be a great seller I would imagine but please keep at least a sport/scale option for the gear (like the Tam/Cermark?).... pretty pretty please? I can't imagine a 16 with trailing leg struts?!?! The blasphemy!!! Also, with the gear doors, if the bottom of the fuse was molded like tams composite version - the customer could either cut out the outline of the gear or the whole bay for gear doors. Would be nice to have both options

Trailing links will be key for the F-16 and grass field operation. You will have a real winner on your hands.

I agree, trailing links are great in full scale or rc jets. I think the 16's are already slender jets, so without gear doors it really starts to look toyish on the ground. Even with doors & armament, I added a bellytank on mine just to make it have a fuller profile/presence. So I would vote to have at least a gear door option.

you can have trailing link that are a straight strut (till they need to bend), Tam's had strait struts.........and they bent rather easily.

I've got a customers sitting in the shop now that he's stuck a trailing link on the nose, it doesn't look too terribly bad.. (it's a little bent from his last landing hence why it's in the shop )

I'll take your word on that KC - over 100 flights on tam and cermark struts with no signs of bending. I'll be interested to see the trailing legs - seems like even if they only had a short TL section it would be visually disturbing. Hey, I'm a fan of this project/kit! - don't get me wrong... just hoping there are some options kept open relating to struts and gear doors.

+1 i don't like to see the servos under the wing when i fly by, much less big holes with wheels/struts.

Hey Molner142,

How does the Cermark size F-16 handle grass fields?

Thanks,
Mike
Don't know. Never flew off grass with one.

As for gear doors... If people want 'em and a more scale look, good news there are a lot of ARF options for you. How many F-16's are there with the simplicity of a Cermark? Ummm, zero (now). For me it would be really nice to have one jet in the hanger (again) that I don't have to fuss with doors. The Cermark was such a simplistic and reliable jet. I could be up and flying at the field quicker and usually logged 3 times the flights in the same time period compared to any other jet I own. Sure it wasn't super fast or as scale as others but when it left the ground I got the same enjoyment. Maybe even more so since it's not $6+K leaving the tarmac!
In my opinion the only improvement needed to the old Cermark design is to glass and paint the wings and tail. After a while, the film covering started to be a hassle to keep looking good and stop from peeling. The original gear plates were a little weak too but that's an easy fix.

From an operational standpoint, I get the guys who don't want doors due to the simplicity of it.
From a business standpoint, I would say at least have an option. Even if it's at an additional cost. Why possibly loose potential customers who want gear doors?

On reading RCJI Oct/Nov issue I saw an add for a Gryphon. Looks very like the Hurricane. In respect of the Hurricane I do believe Henry is building it. This just made me raise an eyebrow. Cant see it on the Redwings website though.

Ignor the Jetlegend ref in the pic it was at the top when I scanned it and refers to another add

Says the Gryphon is full composite - isn't the Hurricane composite fuselage only? Maybe a joint venture of some sort???

Marc_s should be able to shed some light on this....

The two aircraft are totally different in shape and size, Gryphon looks good though and good size at 2m
