It's about time we spoke out concerning the use of this site. I have a degree in EE (Disabled Vet, no one would hire me), and clearly their server cant not handle all the traffic. You will notice it more during peak hours such as 7-9 AM, 11 AM- 1 PM, and 6-8 PM. Maybe, just maybe RCU will upgrade their server capabilities to be able to handle this. Speaking out is the first step, as this is a very informative site, and only to everyone's advantage. It's not your computer, smartphone, etc.

This site has always given me fits, but I've been trying for days on several computers to no avail (until now). I have gone from checking several times a day to almost remotely interested...<div>

Let me ask you guys something.... do you guys actually click on any of the advertiser ad links in the forums any more? Do you bother to look at them or just ignore them? Beginning to think my advertising dollars need to go elsewhere...

I was a network engineer for a global firm with around 30 remote sites. Sure, the backends(servers) can get busy. But we also found issues similar to whats being reported now. Some users, Canada for example say no issue. They may be using a different set of circuits on the Internet to get to RCU than others. More than likely only the "last mile" of network connections to those server(s) is in common with all. We had that same issue many times . RCU would be the customer of the local network provider, the "last mile". Another vendor, like Verizon for example, may be carrying much broader connections to the net. The local provider would be Verizon's customer. RCU may not have direct contact with Verizon or whomever the broader connector is. RCU would have to be in contact with their local provider and insist that the circuit be troubleshot all the way thru.
As I found out after being involved with that for 12 years, the network is always blamed first, even though more likely than not, the back end servers or databases were the root cause of the performance issues. If the server support folks arent sharp, they will automatically blame the network instead of properly troubleshooting the issue. In this case however, some users report no issues. Unless there are multiple front end servers supporting connections to that back end, and the bottle neck is one or a cluster of front ends, then some part of the circuit to the net is at fault and would not be directly under RCU's control. But it would still be their responsibility to gripe as much as it takes to get a resolution.
When multiple systems are involved in getting data to users, the blame game can really lengthen the time of resolution. Sad but true.

Hi Todd, I for one would not know about Dreamworks if it was not for RCU. That doesnt mean its worth it to you of course! I need landing gear and I'm getting it from you.
Perhaps you could put in something like "Tell us how you learned about us" on your site. That may help gauge where your advertising $ are best spent.
Of course if RCU doesnt get its act together one way or another, the decision would be much easier! You wouldnt be the only one dropping off.....

I tried several times yesterday to upload one compressed picture and it timed out every time. Finally just gave up.
Why doesn't someone from RCU reply and let us know what is going on and when it is going to be fixed?

This means all the little hooks built into RCU need to be ironed out, and that is bound to come with some hiccups. It's been a bumpy year, but there is light on the horizon as they work through stabilizing and preparing RCU for a cleaner, simpler, and more stable platform.

Thank you Nathan for your response,
It is good that you have stepped in to update everyone. Most people will be more patient as long as they get a little interaction and not feel their complants are falling on deaf ears.... or blind eyes in this case...
I know, I'm much more tolerant of issues as long as communication is current and I know someone is trying to address the issue.
Thanks,

I personally feel that RCU is a class act. I think the way in which they have managed the site and the forums is better than any other. I will also say, I have found the moderators to be excellent to work with. This pllace is number one in my book and I hope it continues that way.

Nathan,
I don't know what you guys did, but the speed has improved now. It's like night and day. Earlier this morning is was terrible. Now it's flying.

I became aware of this most recent issue when a few members started reporting it to the support link. I've forwarded it on to IT and they have been working to resolve, not only this issue, but the overall stability of the site. One of the lead guys from vB in the last few months become deeply involved in RCU only and is preparing for a port over to that software.

It takes awhile for electrons to get to PR. LOL. Its a lot better but it still took 10 seconds to open the private message link. 6 seconds for this post to show. 4 seconds for the edit to say the 6 seconds.. lol.

well, thats true to a point. If RCU has money to burn, they could withstand a few advertisers dropping off. But, I for 1 am happy for the moment that we got some response to the issue.

Have you ever noticed that the only time when time is of no concern is when you are at work sitting on the john and getting paid for it?

Whenever RCU doesn't load mid-foruming: I close my entire browser and then re-start a fresh session (I've had to do this once already this afternoon). It's a pain in the rear since I have to do a bunch of clicks to get back to where I was, but that tends to get me another 15-20 minutes of "Normal" RCU before it hangs up on me again.
