Chinese Cessnas?

Obviously no one at Cessna's management is a member of RCU.

Based on what goes on in the RC end of Chinese aviation and other items they export, I just don't feel warm and fuzzy. I have no clue how to properly express my doubts about their ability to produce something I would want to fly in or have over my house to the powers that be.

This is exactly what's wrong with the U.S. economy. What's next, a space program run by Chinese contractors because labor is cheaper? Give U.S. a break Cessna!

Same old story.
Greedy western company opens plant in China for reduced production costs but products no cheaper for consumer (bigger profit margin).
Shareholders happy with (short term) increased share value.
Chinese company learns advanced western production methods & technology.
Chinese company (or another just down the road) releases same product under it's own name for lower price.
(copyright? Yeah, sue the Communist government on their home turf).
Consumer buys cheaper product instead of western company's product & could not care less, after all both products come from China.
Western company goes bust, usually after wasting government funds on 'assistance package'. Where did this money come from?
Chinese loans? (don't mention the defecit [
])
Shareholders still have their shares but they are worthless. (CEO has lost his job too but has squirreled enough money away to live
the good life until he gets his next CEO gig via the CEO club, they always seem to fall on their feet).
Unemployed western company workers live under freeways as they could not sell their possesions to pay their mortgages as their possesions
were chinese, worthless & broken anyway because the quality was crap.
Chinese CEO (government official) orders another Rolls Royce & waits for the next greedy western company to move offshore.

Not going to attempt to justify what Cessna is doing.. However, it is somewhat apparent, that to do business in China the products must be built there. This is being demonstrated by Airbus, Boeing, Hawker-Beechcraft, Bombardier and now Cessna that want to expand into this market.
This is from AIN today:
At Abace today, Cessna Aircraft senior vice president for business jets Brad Thress elaborated further on the aircraft manufacturer’s joint venture with Aviation Industry Corp. of China (Avic) and the Chengdu provincial government to build midsize Citations in China. He said that the Sovereigns and Latitudes built in China will be assembled in Chengdu from components made at the company’s headquarters in Wichita. “We see this as incremental business. It will add volume and market for us here but it also adds work volume in Wichita.” For Cessna, Thress said, the move into China “is not about cost; it’s about market access and fostering the development of business aviation here.” He also said that Chinese authorities seem eager to allow general aviation to grow. According to the Cessna executive, Chinese officials understand that a general-aviation infrastructure is essential for development of Chinese pilots and technicians. “They absolutely intellectually understand it,” Thress said. “We’ve taken them to small airports around Wichita and they’ve seen it. They understand how it works for us. They understand what an important component of the overall aviation infrastructure [general aviation] is.”
Not to say that in a few years that they will pick up additional manufacturing capibility. Product design and development shall remain in Wichita.

I think we should write our Congressfolk and Reps and let them know we object to this. I hope the QC is so shoddy that lose money big time on this. I remember there was a batch of either Cessnas or Pipers that were made out of country years ago and by serial number are not allowed into US airspace.

Chinese will be sending us shoddy planes, and get to keep their newly stolen technologies and apply directly in their military hardware to be used against us. Ask me, I studied and worked in Beijing and know exactly what they are up to.
Cessna along with others are prostituting themselves to win a few sales by establishing in China, but pretty soon, Chengdu and Shenyang will come up with their own products to compete with Cessna, if not, directly against us militarily.
I wonder how smart are we?? anyone care to answer that?

I wonder if all Cessna pilots speak only Chinese? When you hear this over the cabin PA, you might want to worry some.
我们的下一站将是位于达拉斯的德州仪器(ti)。 请你提出你表至直立位置和锁扣您的座椅安全带。
Just in case you don't read Chinese, it's just the message to put out all cigarettes, raise your chair table to it's upright and locked position, put away all box cutters, and don't go the the crapper after the landing gear is down. DUH.

Don't rant. Put your money where your mouth is. What's in your driveway, on the back of your boat, in your gun safe, in your tool box? Do you own Chevys and Mercurys, Rugers and Channel Locks? It's not your congressman, just do it.
I was in Lowes a few weeks ago looking for a new staple gun. They had two. One was an Arrow the other was a Stanley. I always look to see if there is an option. The Stanley was made in China, the Arrow in New Jersey. I think about the guys and gals in NJ making this thing, paying their taxes to my government, sending their kids to our schools, spending their money here ('course they probably root for the Jets, but that is a different rant). For me the decision was easy.
I used to only by Buck knives, now you have to be careful. Some are made here, others in China. It's not that hard folks. When you have a choice, by domestically.
I get the whole ARF thing, but if you are not happy with the quality, get ya a nice SIG kit and build it DOMESTICALLY.

I agree, the only choice we have is where we spend our money! If you don't like junk from china then don't buy it.

I don't know if BVM makes his jets in the USA, as far as I know Bruce Tharpe and Nick Ziroli are the few jet guys whose kits are still made here. Anybody want to list the USA built jets whether in kit or ARF form?

Obviously no one at Cessna's management is a member of RCU.

Based on what goes on in the RC end of Chinese aviation and other items they export, I just don't feel warm and fuzzy. I have no clue how to properly express my doubts about their ability to produce something I would want to fly in or have over my house to the powers that be.

Too bad that the vast majority of Americans don't realize it was American labor egotism that led to the massive growth of Asian industry.

Not really in the OAPA they clearly stated that Cessna will develop a new jet in/with China, so part of the D&D will be there...

Nonsense! it was supply and demand. It was corporate greed. I cannot compete with $1.00 per hour which is the average income in the industrialized cities in China. Not even not paying any tax, any benefit, any insurance, anything at all can you compete with that labor rates.
Most of your common over the counter medications are coming straight from India these days. did your price go down? Of course not.
Cessna's Skycatcher is being manufactured in China. Any price benefit for us? Of course not. the selling price is the same as if they would manufacture here.

Boomerang failed to give the first step in the process - greedy union slugs decide they want more pay than the engineers who actually went to school and learned how to design the aircraft and avionics in it. And if they don't get it they'll sit down on the job and cry about it like big babies. Or worse yet destroy peoples' cars who actually want to work.
