Default BVM Electra 10s or 12s

Gonna put a fan unit in an Electra, I've never flown the 12s just the 10s. But I wanted to hear from people to help me decide which one to put in. Is the extra #'s in thrust worth the extra money, weight in lipo's etc..Or is the economical 10s the better route?? I know at the field, with the setup I have, the 10s is easier for me as I can charge them together. would like to hear from people who have flown both..Any input would be appreciated..Thanks

I had a 12 cell electra and loved it. Never flew the 10 cell version but I love having more power.

I have flown both...

It is a complex decision!. I own a 12s and flew BV's 10s. I was very impressed with the 10s performance and flight times. It does everything you want
But for me, I really like the extra power of the 12s. It is a racer!

I think It is mostly a money issue. I do not find the extra weight significant in performance, and with a Powerlab 8 running on 24 volts, you can charge your 3 batts in parallel at 2c in 25 minutes

Net, if you can spend the extra money (which I agree, it is significant), i would go 12, but it all depends on how much you want to spend and your flying style. The electra is extremely capable on 10s.

Hope i did not confuse you more

That does make sense, I have a 24v system with a powerlab 8..Was going to go with the dinogy, 2) 5s packs and the 1) 2s pack..all same MAH but they have to be same cell count to run parallel correct?? I already have the EVF 2 12s fan and motor unit, but have 2 electras, 1 motor fan unit...Didnt know if I was going to unload the 12s and just put 10's in both..But seems like I might keep the 12s..

Try going with 3 4cell packs. That is what I used on my electra so I could charge them all at once. Had one in each saddle location then one on top of the inlet. They where gensace 4 cell 5200mah packs if I remember right.

I think I saw a pick of yours on the web somewhere before with that set up..BV sells the TP saddle packs correct? 3) 4 cells..If I did that how would that go?? one on one side and 2 packs on the other???

BV sells the TP saddle packs. Also Dinogy. And yes, you need 3x4s packs to charge in parallel. 2x5s + 1x2s need to be charged separately

The way the fit in the aircraft is: 2 on the sides (same as your 10 s), one between the inlets, behind the landing gear door. That is the best way to balance it.

Let us know what you end up doing!

Later

Found some pics of my electra before it died rip with the battery install. Not sure if these batteries are still sold I have not done EDF in a while. But I would parallel charge the 3 4 cell packs for faster charging. These batteries lasted allot longer then my old 65C thunderpuffs.

Mine was a kit version with a 5212. Flew on rails all day long. I liked having the extra power for grass operations and then throttled back after cleaning up the plane. Would get six to seven solid minutes with lots of up lines. It will fly fine on ten cells especially with the newer batteries and fans.

Flew with a hitech 9 channel radio back then and it had some kind of lockout. Their was a software update to fix this issue but I didn't know about the update until it ate the ground. Was one of the best flying planes I have ever had and miss it allot.

I have an Electra with 12s and the 9er rotor. The performance is amazing. But I have flown quite of few 10s and they are very good flyers as well. Something I would suggest is a 10s with the 9er fan blade. You have the economical battery options with improved performance from a normal 10s.

Thunder Power is the best and if you want a battery that is tested 500 cycles. I will be trying my Electra on 10's I have 12's right now and it scoots.
