I suppose the lighter-the-better principle applies here if you want to fly with an engine that small. I've seen video of that combo and it was great. I have to admit that I've never been too concerned about weight with this bird once I figured out her stall. My last several were built stock (other than the inlet mods for accommodating a fuel tank) with robo-struts on all three gear, flaps and servo-powered speed-brakes. After that, they also had an external wet tank on the centerline. With a P-60, they'd get airborne in 200' and be back-taxiing by the 2/3rd point on a 450' runway. This airplane looks really slick with a centerline tank on it, by the way....

Good point, many of the threads on RCU seem to drift off topic. It will not be long now before the K45 starts arriving in the UK, then we will see how it compares to the 44 Gold the only other engine in the class. I suspect it will be very similar (but cheaper) and will need to check the consumption in comparative tests.

Yes John I am interested in this motor,mainly because of price and look forward to some hands on experiences. It's true KT's have a history of being a little thirsty but as I can buy in Euros and I am paid in pounds the current price for me as of last week is around £1080 which is too good to miss up.

I am not quite sure where you get your info on prices. The K45 I understand will be about £1300 including 20% vat. Is there somewhere you can by in Europe cheaper than that?

Hi John, yes I just checked the site out which is skymasterjet.fr and they are quoting 1500 euros which equates to 1086.49£ as it has moved a little since last week, a bargain I reckon.

I'll try to steer it back on course. I got mine on Tuesday. Here is a pic of it in the mini Avanti. It is going to weigh about a pound and a half more than the P20 version including 30oz of fuel. I will start a build thread soon. It will fit in the rails with just a little bit of adjusting for the lock nuts on the turbine mount, pretty sweet :-) Just waiting on a few more trinkets from dream works.

NIce! I did a weight comparison between a 8S 90 mm setup and this turbine, with fuel the turbine version would be about 2-3 oz heavier, of course the landing weight of the turbine would be about 1 lbs lighter!

Very good point Bob, don't know why that didn't come to mind. I know that with the Ultra Bandit I had, you were advised not to land with a full fuel load. I think the airframe will be fine, with this motor. We'll find out soon ;-)

Are you using the stock tail pipe which Seba sells, or using a pipe rated for around 45N of thrust?
would you know if the stock pipe is strong enough for turbines above 30N?

I talked to Ilja at grumania, he told me the 20N pipe is not strong enough. He is making me one. I did not ask him if the stock one is good for 30. I'd drop him an email. He made the prototype pipe for the avanti, not sure if he is making the production ones.

The turbine looks at home in this plane, rails are perfect size. I know the P20 needs tabs to move the rails more towards the midline.

Even I too, was going to ask Ilja to make me a thrust tube, the stock tube is made by skymaster is what Seba mentioned.

Don't forget Wren makes a pipe for the 44 which is the correct size for the K45. It is available in single and double wall from Ron in the USA.

Jason got this kit to me for the sole reason of doing a build thread. I have most everything I need to start it, already have quite a few pics. I'll get it going this week!

Mothers day is a big deal around my house, so this weekend is shot ;-)

P20 version... which weigh in at atleast 1lb more then with another small engine. That makes it probably 3lb heavier with K45 then if I would have set one up to my preferences. Looking forward to seeing those two versions flying along side :-)

I always fancy a light setup. If it are recommended with the P20 and apparently does well on that I would not go for anything larger. As this is the K45 thread I won't dig too deep in to the alternatives. :-)

Henke, I agree 100% with your thoughts to keep the model light. It's too bad we can not easily buy the Lambert Turbines in the US.

Jason shared the weight of the P20 powered mini Avanti, I think mine will weigh 1.5 pounds more. I am weighing as I go, will know an exact # soon. I have all the linkages done, just need a few hours to sit down and put it all together, gonna be a very quick build. I'll try to start the build thread soon.
