I’m hoping to wait till the very last step for the canopy as I want to minimize scratches.

That said, Behzad’s advice is solid. Cutting oversized wins the day.

The hard part might be that the canopy glass is all one piece, so getting that seam correct will be stressful!

Yes, one challenging part is the cut to separate the front canopy frame of the rear one. This is where the canopy open, so going oversize there don't help because it reduces it on the other side...

I painted the little copper colored trim around the front window. I wonder what use it had in the full scale...

Default Broken Fans

So today found out that that both my fans are broken

Never used or mishandled. I don't think they came that way, so I guess that the 3d printed plastic had internal stresses that gave up. The kit was received in June 2019.
Maybe i can get the center section from Mibo as changing the blades look easy enough. However the center bearing may have been placed there during the 3d printing.

That’s horrible Edgar. Wow. I better check my fans.

Maybe a bad batch of plastic? My A-10 was built in a similar time frame too.

Both of my fans looked ok. And I didn’t know that the fan cones were removable!

Yes, but mine is the older version. Maybe flap horns are different and shorter, as Mibo as gone to sliding flaps. If its the case, you may use longer servo arms to get correct throw

Bogo from Mibo responded immediately to my request for replacement. Initial thinking is that the filament was bad. They will send me the center section. Really happy with the response. Hopefully they get here soon.

Whoooow

That is horrible..... but the new design is gorgeous

Previous ones were made in ABS and were very fragile and there were no ball bearings, only bushings. When broken in mid air, they would destroy the nacele and could induce crash
By the pics, they seem to have changed that to PLA that is far more resistant

That is why I made my own at the time with correct size to fit ball bearing. The tolerances have to be correct and please balance the fan. Mine have now more than 150 flights

Regards
Nuno

Nuno, it was my understanding that Mibo always used a Fowler flap mechanism. Yours does not?

The earlier versions (at least through Gen 3) did not have Fowler flaps. They used a stand-off hinge method which fairly well simulated the movement of Fowler flaps when viewed from above. Here are a couple of pics of mine.

Upon further inspection, I may have some cracks on my fans as well.

Also, never mounted or mishandled.

What do you guys think?

I bet the hole is slightly too small for the bearings or they got a batch of bearings that are a fraction too large. i wouldn't trust it. especially on such expensive model.

I think the true Fowler cam after Gen4. The Gen4 is still using the stand-off hinge like in your picture.

Hey Rav, can you take a thin flat carbon plate and glue to the back side to beef these up? Looks like they are cracking like fuel tanks will when you install the fuel plug directly on the composite tank. I either glued in metal inserts or just glued an aluminum plate on for so it gave the rubber plug something to push on.

Mibojets USA got back to me and he said that all the fans he's seen have looked like mine and have been fine. I think what Fender is suggesting is a good idea and good insurance!

Edgar's fans look to be in pretty rough shape though!

After emailing Bogo, he is going to send me new center sections as well. I don’t think those individual fan blades are going to be that easy to remove and replace, but I hope so!

I finished the pave penny pod. And then I decided to put the jet together to just look at!

Ok, so the flaps take 2 inch arms and the servo spline has to be placed with the splines towards the front of the wing for the servo arm to clear the top skin.

On one of my flaps, the servo arm just touches the upper skin.

It’s a tight fit, but it works with non-excessive servo travel.
