Default Your Method Of Attaching Pylons And Weapons To Jet Wings

Hey guys, would like to see how you attached pylons to the wings and of course how you attached missiles and bombs to the pylons. Thanks for this Learning Lesson on How To. Chic

I usually use dowels hysoled in to the top wing (and hopefully hysoled to a former too). To these dowels, I bolt down the pylon and then I like to use BVM easy mounts for quick disconnections of the ordinance/drop tanks at the field.

I do the same for the hard-points, i.e., a dowel Hysol'ed into the wing at the top wing skin and at bottom wing skin that is then drilled and tapped for the pylon mounting bolts/screws. This can be done (carefully) on ARF wings with only needing to use touch-up paint on the end of the dowel after it is (carefully) sanded to be flush with the wing bottom skin. I have never had a hard point like this fail...

That generally depends on the weapon and the pylon. I have a drop tank for my F-4 where the tank and the pylon are glued together and integrated into one. For the F-4 missles, I used thin carbon rods to tie the missles into the missle rails on the pylon to keep them in the right position and small screws to hold them onto the pylon itself.

On my Hawker Hunter the tanks have "tabs" that fit into slots in the pylons and a small bolt goes through the pylon and the tab to hold the tanks in place.

My DerJet Hunter has two large headed screws in each of the the lower wings. The pylon upper mating surfaces have two matching keyhole slots where you just align the pylon over the screw heads and push them backwards to lock them in place. Never had an issue with them coming off. A gentle tap from the rear and they slide right off. A slight adjustment to the screw gap allows the tightness of the pylon fit to be adjusted. Simple.

My TopRC Hunter uses the same method.

For the pylon/ordinance interface:

BVM Release Mechanical EZ-Hanger
