I've always thought RPV rocket / bomb "targeting contests" would be a way to step up the level competition at our Jet Rally's and be a barrel of fun at the same time.
Lee,
At MS Afterburner this year we will have a target area set up, a large circle on the ground, probably about 20-30' diameter. BVM has developed some new bombs, and along with the bomb release mechanisms make a fun game (I already took some money from Vernon on this one!) for our jet rallies. A few of us were testing them out off the Kingcats at Florida Jets. What a blast!

As far as the legality goes it is not outright illegal in Colorado, unless there is some obscure statute I don't know of. Colorado classes these rockets as "Educational" and not a weapon or explosive device. You could be looking at a felony however if someone got hurt or it started a fire. I also skimmed over the Code of Federal Regulations and did not find anything specific, but I mean skimmed.

David, do you want me to bring my bicycle again so I can chase Vernon and BV's bombs down range? You expect Vernon to hit a 20 to 30 circle. The last time I saw him drop a bomb, it hit about a third of a mile away.
BV's hit in about the same spot.

Theoretically that should mean I can pay for my next trip if their performance holds up! Bring the bike.
Look at this page http://www.bvmjets.com/HotShots/fijr03/fijr03.htm to see some early prototypes, the ones we were dropping at Florida Jets were similar but held together really well.....except if you targeted the asphalt like one of mine did.
