I have recently completed a Sky Master F15. It is not 100% scale but it turned out well. I had to search the web and I also found 3 documentation books to get reference points for the decals that I used. ( i.e. warning, caution, no step) This took me a lot of time. I am going to start finishing my F18 and I will need reference photos for it soon. My question is can we start a few threads for scale aircraft reference photos? i.e. F15 reference, F16 reference ect... This would have saved me a lot of time when trying to complete my F15. I have had several people email me for reference photos since posting some pics of the F15. I think a lot of people would support this idea.
Thanks for having the best site on the web,
David

It's kinda funny....I am in the middle of putting Aeroloft transfers on my SM F-15 right now. I thought I'd take a break and see what was shaking on RCU. Let me toss it around with the suits and get back to you.
BTW....where do all of the "no step" and "warning" transfers go?![X(]

That is one sharp A** 15 man!! She looks superb-great job!! Is that the YA F15 scale gear on your SM 15?Just curious as I am getting ready to get a 15 too .I am definately getting the YA scale gear as I personally dont feel that the SM gear is remotely scale looking at all

Yes, Yellow scale gear with hard rubber tires. I could not ever find a reference book at the library here. I looked in every book store and I could not even find a model of the F15 in any stores. And I live in a town of 90,000 people.
I had 2 books, my friend had one and I did web searches, it's not 100% scale it turned out well. First flight scheduled for weds or thursday. I cannot wait after hearing about everyone elses success with this kit.

Lee,
This is how I did mine. I let the paint cure for a day the I scuffed the area with a scotch brite(the transfers and rivets would not stick if the painted area had a sheen to it), I cut out the transfer and taped it into place( be careful when taping not to tape over a transfer that is aready applied it will pull off). I burnished it with the burnishing tool I purchased from ProMark last year, I then used a heat gun to warm the area and burnished it again. I then pulled off the transfer backing. Heating the area and burnishing it again really helped on the transfers that had small writing. After the transfers, rivets and weathering was finished, I clear coated it with a flattening agent added to the clear coat.
David,
I dont know what scale the F18 is but the transfers I used were for the Aeroloft Avonds F15. The Skymaster F15, Yellow F15 and Avonds F15 are all about the same size. I used the small dark rivets from ProMark on mine.
James,
I will check out that site I need reference books for my F18 now. Get you Skymaster F15 done so we can fly together at the next jet meet.
Picture of burnishing tool rom ProMark, The rounded end worked well for rivets on contured areas.

Bob,
If you need clear coat. I'll sell to you just enough to spray the whole plane. It is very expensive if you get the complete set up.
I'm using PPG 2060 flat clear.

David, which clear coat did you use? Also, which fuel tanks did you go with?

Bob,
I used 4-Dubro 24oz tanks and a BVM UAT which is 4 more oz. I have a Ram1000 for power. 100 oz will let me fly 8 mins.
The clear coat that I used is called The Matrix System. I went to the auto paint store told them what I was doing and that it needed to be fuel proof, this is what they recommended:
MS-20 clear coat --$78.00 gal
MR-0870 reducer mediun dry time--$10.00 qt
MH-005 hardener ----$18.00 qt
MX-850 flatening agent---24.00 gal
I bought gal sizes to do multiple planes, Here is the website if you want to read about the paint.
http://www.autobodysupply.net/Matrix/Matrix.htm
What I have done is gone to the paint store and had them mix the colors I wanted in spray cans. (about 10.00 a can-- usually takes 5-8 cans depending on the paint job and size of plane.)I Paint the colors with them, it is easier for me than mixing paint in the spray gun especially if I am using multiple colors. I then Spray the clearcaot with a spray gun. I painted my bobcat the same way and it turned out very nice.

Cool. Are those just the standard 24 oz Dubro square tanks? How did you mount them?
