mixing fuel
Just wondering if it is ok to just dump the oil into 5 gals of fuel?
I normally put the oil in first then by filling it, I know it get mixed. If I just add the oil to the fuel will it be mixed ok??
Thanks
Bill

RE: mixing fuel
Thats a good question, I have often wondered how good or bad the mixing is between these components.
I like to dump the quart into a 5 gallon jug of Crowne, then close the can tightly and roll it on the ground for a couple of minutes to ensure mixing. Who know how well it works, but I have never had a problem with bad lubrication.

RE: mixing fuel
If you really want to mix it get yourself a carbon rod that fits your drill screw a model boat prop
on the end and churn it up
but you have to wait after that till all the air bubbles rise up.
its the way we used to mix methanol and castor oil many years ago

RE: mixing fuel
I had to run in the pump as per instructions for my new Wren, so I added the turbine oil and swished all around, put a clunk with felt filter in the bottom of the jerry can, and put a short pipe on the pump that was about an inch above the kerosene level and ran the motor for an hour. My theory was that this would agitate and bring the fuel and oil up and gradully mix it through.
I did note that the colour of the fuel was a uniform orange when finished but when I started I noted it light orange at the top and dark at the bottom.
I am going to try and run the engine for the first time today, we may find out how good this process was!!!

I still shake the 5 gallon can pretty good.

Ronnie, I have mixed the two in just about every percentage imaginable. Routinely!! You can fill a quarter tank of Jet A, finish with Kero or vice versa, I have seen absolutely no difference in performance, temperatures etc.
I've done this by the tens of gallons. Mix it however you want.
