Have you got a drawing.
Thanks.

Extra 300. Have a look at posting No. 942 Page 38 of this thread. and some of the posts before and after it.
Spartan, just make a baffle to fit inside the XL hatch, from Liteply or 5mm. balsa about half way along the turbine position. Allow 10 to 15 mm. clearance around the turbine. Epoxy it in place. Sorry, I have no pictures. It's so simple you will not need them.
Just as a further note on this "Compressor stall". It seems to happen to ALL makes and sizes of turbine and in many different models. It is a known problem in full size jets too.
I have had it happen twice when pulling out of a five or six turn spin. In my case a yellow flame trailed out of the P60 turbine which had flamed out , of course, and I dived hard to put it out almost immediately. The fuselage was scorched but not seriously. I just thought it was just one of those things till it happened the second time, under exactly the same circumstances!
There are various theories on why.
It seems to occur when the model is at slow or moderate speed, turbine is idling or close to idle, and then the throttle is opened fast to maximum. It appears to happen more in hot climates. Unequal air pressure on one side of the fuselage may contribute to the cause.
BUT........The simple baffle completely cures the problem!
I have also now got into the habit of opening the throttle just a little slower from idle. Old glo-motor ways die hard!

Also here are a couple of shots of air intake ideas to help the turbine breathe during extreme aerobatics. The upper intakes are slotted for the option to cut them easily into the hatch on all recent kits and FOD prevention mesh is now included too. Intake scoops are not always necessary.
Alan
Question... in the photo of the air intakes, they have a black rim round them. What is it and where can I get i from. Also could you show me a picture of the inside of how the meshes are attached.
Cheers
David

RE: new Arf Boomerang 14lb thrust
Sorry David, photos came from customers planes and they all do their own thing. Mesh is usually cyano'd or epoxied in place inside the fuselage, then reinforced with balsa or thin ply around the edges making a mesh sandwich.
The inner air scoops can be made from any thin card or plastic sheet. they are out of the airstream so don't need to be too strong, just fixed securely. They can direct the airflow and prevent the the inner fuselage being seen through the hole, but don't add anything to the amount of air passing through.
You'll have to improvise!
Alan.

I too am using these Jet A1 struts sold by Digitech. They really are fantastic quality. I am using Spring Air retracts.
They do fit, but I had made the brass insert out of steel, as the Jet A1 struts use a 6mm pin in the top, were as the Spring Air Brass Insert has a 5mm internal hole to accept wire legs!!!!

Alan has Springair 101HDF retracts (forward nose retraction) in stock, with 3/16" wire legs. Those are the set we use and recommend, very light and strong for the Baby B but the Boomerang Jets UK office is closed for annual recovery R & R. till 24th July.
Dallas office is open for US sales.

Hi
heres a shot of the leg installed. Its a bit scrappy owing to the retro fit situation. I am going to tidy it all up soon in the woodwork dept.
I also enclose some more shots of the installation of the digitech oloes. You can see how much the gear well changes and I also reinforced the gear bearers with upright hardwood ,supporting the original bearer either end. I have left plenty of room around the wheels in case I find a slighty lighter wheel but which maybe a little larger. I will fill the bottoms of the wells with styrene foam plugs and paint them black when finished.
It is a lot easier to do this when the wing is unfixed to the main fuselage as you can appreciate.
Everyone has their own ideas but this works for me so if I hope it may be of interest.

RE: new Arf Boomerang 14lb thrust
Hi guys,
Last Saturday was finally the day. I had my BI maidened..... Although I had my apprehensions due to my first bad experience with my SM F-15 which caught fire in flight (total loss), I must admit that I was quite pleased with the results I got from this extremely easy to fly jet.
All went ok, all was needed was a couple of clicks of up trim to achieve level flight. Take off was very smooth, nice climb, maneuverability extremely relaxing which puts you at easy (too much I guess) that you forget that you are flying a jet.
flaps is quite effective but needs some mixing with down elevator.
The only negative aspect of this whole project is the great appetite for fuel of the P-60. I was hoping for 10 minutes of flight but I was barley having 7'30!QUOT! and started using UAT.....
I would like to thank all who have contributed to this thread and from which I have learned all what's needed to get to this point. A special thanks also goes to Alan who has given us a great product very well designed and easy to fly.
Can't wait to start building my Boomerang XL.....
Thanks. Dany

Just wondering, but do the instructions mean to glue the dowels into the booms or the wing parts?
In fact anyone any photographs of the dowls fitted?

Steve,
Got the baffle right and placed it correctly. In fact have test flown the BI a few days ago (see post 1315 above). Snaps, loops, rolls, inverted low passes etc... everything went through in the first 3 flights....
Very relaxing plane, you even forget that you are flying a jet and you just feel that you are flying a very stable aerobatic plane yet a trainer if you choose to fly at medium/low speed.

Sorted - new unit from Mikes Models - apparently spares not available - slightly annoying £50 for a new unit for one tiny broken part!!!
