I want to use a gyro on my nose wheel steering. Would like it to be turned off when the gear is retracted but active on the ground.
Can someone help me program my 9Z to make this happen? My learning curve on this radio is still vertical when it comes to mixing and working slave/master choices ([sm=lol.gif]don't go there...).
[sm=punching.gif]And no, I'm not going to change radio brands.

It sounds like you need to get a dual-gain gyro. Using a y-harness on the retract servo to change gains would be the correct setup. Set the 1st gain to minimum when the gear is up to limit the reaction, then the 2nd gain to whatever feels right when the gear's down. I've never done it before, but I'm looking at trying it as well. (as soon as winter goes away...

OK, fine. It ain't all that cold (yet) but I'm going to start building a replica of Noah's arc tomorrow.

Here's a link to the gyro I was looking at a few weeks back. [link=http://www.centuryheli.com/products/gyros/]Century PG2000[/link]
If anyone has any recommendations, please speak up! My dog might need to buy me a Christmas gift...
Thx,
Kelly

Thanks Kelly but I'm looking for guidance on what channel to plug the gyro into and how to mix it with the retract switch. And I want to do it with my 9Z...

This is what i use ,i don`t bother with any mixing,i use a GWS gyro
on the rudder channel set to 50% gain stays on all the time.
64 flights off grass and no problems and i use a Wc2.
Had an airpipe come off one wheel brake and it still steered straight

Thanks Brian,
I looked at that one also, but I'm leaning towards the dual gain. I'm putting it in a Yellow Stingray. The situation is opposite of RAMFlyer's though, as I'm looking for in-flight stability. With the nose steering and rudder on a low rate, its quite manageable on takeoff / landing roll. I figure adding a gyro couldn't hurt in either condition though, so having independent gains might prove handy...
RAMFlyer, I don't think I understand your concern since adding a gyro should be independent of the model or brand of radio. I fly with a Futaba 8UAP, but the setup should be the same. I'd simply put a Y-harness on the channel that controls the retract valve servo, also connecting that channel to the rate switch function on the gyro. The other gyro input would then go to the rudder channel output on the RX (or whatever channel you're mixing to control the servo running the nose steering) and the gyro output would run to the servo that controls the function that you with to stabilize.
