That they do not make a kit for single turbine.

Do you have to cut out the lower fuselage and mold a new piece to install the turbine and bifurcated pipe in the middle ?

I think so.....but it´s not easy. I´ve talked to Mr Köhnen , he had a lot of work to get his MiG ready to fly. And: he has the taileron servos on the outside of the fuselage.....nothing for me.Thats too expensive for such compromises...

The distance between the nacelles ist very small, so can not do it like on the Liebetrau SU....

On the other side:
A MiG 29 without two turbines isn´t a Mig 29,or is it?? [8D]

I think, it will be worth to save a little bit more and buy the CARF.....

I´d like to have her under the christmas tree

Bye,
Jair

Hi Jair,
I bought one of these early kits from a well known German jet modellers a few years ago. So far it is still waiting for me to pluck up courage to begin. There is a lot of work. However the detail on the mouldings is excellent. I do not have any retarct system for it and the one that is offered now is desined to be operated by servos. I am not too sure if this will work well, but the pictures of the system look very good. I have wheels but no brakes. There is no ducting of any kind!.
I will not begin this model until the end of this year but I intend to use 2 x Wren Supersports for power. If anyone has experience of the scale undercarriage offered fro this model I would like to hear from them.
regards,

John

John,
My experience with undercarriage is somewhat limited as I'm just about to start the build, but I can say they're highly detailed and well made. I can email you some pics if you wish.
Cheers
Ken

The only thing I know about the gear is, that you need one "Jumbo" servo with a lot of power for the main gear, and one strong for the front gear.the main gear doors are also operated by servo. There must be something like a mechanical "lock" at the down position.....

The german guys installed a sepcial gear from www.wabofahrwerke.de !Have a try!!It also turns 90°, but not like the original one.

Have a nice day,
Jair

Hi Ken,
Yes please. I am particularly interested in how they mount and how they are driven. What I fail to understand is why people are not just using twist and turn retracts on this model? Is there something going on here that I don't understand?

Hi Jair,
I tried the link to Wabo's web site but it did not work. Looking at the pictures of the gear I don't see how there can be any mechanical lock. I suppose it relies on the servo arm travelling over centre to lock it down.

Regards,

John

The problem with twist and turn retracts is when they twist the wheels hit the side of the fuselage before they tuck away. The Comp Arf Mig-29's gear works the same as the full scale. That is they have a piviot point that is angled 45 degrees from horizonal and 45 degrees from vertical, this causes the LG leg to swing away from the fuse as it retracts the wheel, thus the wheel actually slides in slot in the side of the fuse.

I am building such a set for my new Mig-29, but haven't had much time to work on them. Had twist and turn set on my old Mig but had to disable the mechinsm and made new gear doors with big humps in them to clear the wheels.

Hi,

the website must work. When I click on the link, I´m connected.

Wabo built a normal turn /twist gear, which will work in the 1/7 scale MiG.But it´s not scale....
Send them an email... [email protected] ! You must tell him, that you are building the MiG, that was former distributed by Modellbau Pollack...they also had the gear for W.Kluehrs old MiG 29-which is also different. It may be not easy to contact them, because the former owner died a few month ago, an the new owner has just beginn to work.
The guy from www.powerflug.de has installed this gear I think.....

@Terry: which MiG 29 are you currently building?C-ARF [X(] ?

bye,
Jair

Hi Terry,
Thank you for the explanation it makes sense now. When I got the model I realised that the wheel wells were going to be very tight.

Hi Jair,
I will try the Wabo web site again but at this stage I will just gather information. I will probably buy the gear offered along with gear doors, and if Mr Pock can offer intake ducts, then I will probably buy those too.
Regards,

John

Terry, I said it the first time I saw that plane Superman and I'll say it again, I have got to get me one of those. So what's the poop on TGA in general and the molded Mig in particular.

Hi John,

you can order the gear system, thats not a problem. The mechanical gear works very well and you have no trouble with leaking air. You need three servos for the gear ( front HS805BB, main 2 x 9152 ) and two small standart servos ( one fon, one main )for the mechanical lock in down position. There is no power on the servos when the gear is in lock positions.

In the moment we have not planend to make a intake duct.

greetings Frank

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the info. I will be ordering your gear and doors for sure, the cockpit kit too and probably the brakes. The wheels I have appear the same as in your photographs but I have not taken them apart yet. When I do I will send you some photos to see if you think the brakes you have will fit.
However, it is quite a way down my build list yet so I won't get around to it until later this year.
How much is the gear system and doors BTW?
Best regards,

John

You mean the Chaff and Flair dispensers in front of the tail fins? If so yes, and it is an "A". The C/F dispensers are molded from three separate molds. In all I used 32 molds to make the entire aircraft.

If memory serves, the "C" has a bigger dorsal hump behind the canopy to house more avionics.

The "B" is a two place "trainer" version with out the Chaff/ Flair dispensers. I have a plug for the front of the fuselage to make a "B" version.

"K" was the Navy version with folding wings for carrier use.

I don't remember what the differences are for the "M"???????????
