Hey Sonnich,

Im thinking about buying one of those Hawks, but the landing gear issue keeps bugging me. I don't know if I could find any Eurokit struts in the US. Long time ago, I had an Aviomodelli kit that had a landing gear very simillar to what you have.

How is the F-16 doing? Did you apply Ralles decals?

David
I found the Eurekits retracts are available in the USA at http://www.eurokit.us/custompage.asp?page=1
In Europe at at http://www.eurokitlucca.it/index.htm with about four UK suppliers. Quality is OK and sturdy I'm told for the Hawk but cannot confirm first hand yet. Price about £95

Amendments and updates for the AMD Hawk instructions, got a nice hand written note back from Dave at Colchester models regarding latest thoughts, really they are first class. It covers items 7,9,10,13,14 and 22. Also the scale wing fencing (did I say 'strakes' must have had my WW1 hat on) with balsa sandwich on 3/32 ply.

Hanger rash! I found the rear hatch chipped on arrival. Dave suggests Humbrol 220 Ferrari Red or UK Halfords spray cans for larger areas. Anyone suggest the film to 'match the red' for the wing fences? I'm off to glue more Hawk parts.

Paul

I was wondering if anyone had problems using the flaps? I lost my JHH hawk due to the flaps. When I applied flaps the plane pitched over violently. no elevator control. I was low and slow. I should of tried the flaps up high but didn't. Didn't have the altitude to recover. I was wondering what the problem could have been, Flew great up till final approach. Ow well, ordering another one.

My friend installed an outer wall on my wren pipe for me.....now I wont have to worry too much about heat.......but it does weigh twice as much now than before.....the wahw doesn`t realy need any more tail weight, especialy with 2 servos down there too.

Looking good, Dave at Cochester says it takes 5.5 days from opening box to flying time and i cannot even keep up with you!

Remember those grounded when you are up there flying. Soft landings on the maiden flight. A video of the start up, flight, anything else will be a bonus and get my vote.

Thnakns Paul

I screwwd up bigtime on the pipe....... It said 30mm from the tailcone to the inlet duct on the pipe in Wren`s drawing. What I failed to see, was that is for the 2 piece tailcone. The single piece cone only has to be 10mm from the inlet....... so my pipe is 20mm short ....dang..

But I dont think it will be a problem.......now I just have a huge venturi effect in the fuselage.....better cooling
What do you guys think ?

I just weighed my hawk with my fishing weight scale. Just under 12lbs or 5,45kg dry.
It balances perfectly on CG with a 4 cell 3000nimh rx pack , and 6 x 1200sc pack in the nose.

These are quite heavy batteries, and if the turbine could have been moved further forward, I could have used lighter/smaller batts, and reduce weight further.

The jetpipe can be up to 25mm from end of turbine outlet. That is one inch. Mine is set at 3/4" The only time it could be a problem is during a wet start. But you would have the hatch off anyway during the start. DB

What if you put the fiberglass exhaust shroud in. would that help? It may also help during a wet start.

How did you set your elevator up?The instructions show +3mm? at the TE but there is no datum line on the fuz.

Hope it goes well at the weekend. BTW the Jetco is repaired and will fly again tomorrow!

I haven`t set mine up yet :-)
but Im giving it some up elevator in relation to the waterline of the whole plane.

I have no worries....im not going to maiden the it myself.... I have poeple for that

We have a guy that can fly a rafale on one elevon and canard only!
He also has no need for the sticks in the radio to center...he just holds them where the plane flys neutral

Noooooooooooooooo! [X(]

I did the next worst thing you can do today........
After starting the JJ-1400, I shut it down, and decided to charge the rx battery. I then inserted the charger lead into the switch with has the carging jack.........and then I mistakenly reversed the polarity. One milli-seccond, and my 149DP PCM reciver was now dead!

I drove 3 1/2 hours to fly, and I just killed the RX
Jezzes christ [8D]
I could hang myself now....

At least I had my hotspot with me, and I did manage to run the JJ engine once.

Startup went ok for a first start. CEO of Simjet, Lars Noer which was present , eagerly watched me start the JJ
I sould have primed the fuel lines with the prime function of the Fadec, But I forgot to . I also used a can of gass which was almost empty. This resulted in a little sputtering startup of the JJ, as I could see bubbles down the fuel line until it became stable. I had also fed the engine liquad butane, as I shook the gas bottle to get the last out of it, and that also contributed to the less than perfect startup.

Im sure the next startup will be problem free, as the lines are now full of fuel, and I have a new can of gas
It did not want to idle at the 47000rpm set in the ECU. It settled at 61000-62000 rpm. What can cause this?
Full power went quite quickly, maybe also contributed by my the higher idle. I did not messure the thrust, but it felt very strong.
The engine sounded quite high pitched compared to my 127000 rpm simjet 3000.
Lars said that this was probably due to bad alingment, and not unbalance. He said that this would not effect performance, of lifetme. The engine operated very smoothly.

In 3 weeks time, ill get the Hawk flying at the next jeet meeting !!
