Hey Jet Jocks,
Today I've successfully maidened my AMD Hawk (chinese knock off in T-45 scheme) with OS 91/Dynamax setup.
She flew awesome, very very fast (around 140mph+)!!!
It's my first ducted fan model, I'm very happy after almost three month rebuilding so many parts due to the poor quality of the kit.
The landing was fine, very docile.
I'll try to record the next flight on video.

Beware on getting hooked on speed...at first is 140, then 240, then...

I have also seen the Will Hobby kit and it is of very low quality.
How is the quality of the genuine AMD hawk ? is it better ?

OPS FI-RE 60 (61) KEPT ON PURRING.
I was thinking safety but not concentraiting hard enough. SO TO ALL FELLOW FLYERS-THINK AND ACT SAFELY AT ALL TIMES-
And to the guys at Scobee Field who patched me up and loaded my gearTHANKS AGAIN

Hey Kevin,
Man what a shame, I haven't seen your post before!
I'm very sorry for your accident!!
Yeah, our hobby is really dangerous! Sometimes we get blind, and forget the safety precautions...
I hope you get better soon and finish your Willhobby Hawk!!
Let me know.
Best regards,
Andre

Back working on my Hawk again, was resetting up ailerons and flaps as I have now wired the ailerons serperatly for crow braking as I had them origonally on a Y lead.
Looking at the wing if I set the flaps inline with the centre section and the ailerons inline withe the flaps, the ailerons are low when looking from the tip.
The ailerons should follow the profile of the wing and if anything slightly higher which will effectivily give the wing some washout.
In order for everything to be as I think it should, the inboard edge of the flaps will be about 3mm higher than the centre section.
Where have you guys set yours ?

My AMD Hawk eventually took to the air again after 3years!
I took the P60 out of my Boomerang as it is lighter than either my wren 54 or JJ1400.
Had some trouble getting it fitted forward far enough as it is longer than the Wren or JetJoe, so I never managed to get the normal 15-20mm distance from the end of the turbine tailcone to the start of the tailpipe.
The tailcone is just inside the tailpipe but decided it would be ok due to the larger size of the stainless dual wall tailpipe.
It had been noted on another thread that it may effect the static thrust but the model showed no signs of it and takeoff run was fast and short.
The model was not as light as I had hoped, as I still needed some weight at the front for the CG, so I used a larger batteries than I had planned. Weight with a full 6oz header tank was 13½lb.
Flight went perfect, I set the CG at 130mm, Ailerons are about 8mm each way, Elevator after the flight was in-line with top of rear fuselage, Flaps (need to measure exact angle) are about 15deg for takeoff and 40deg for landing, I had about 3mm up elevator added in with full flap plus about 4mm crow braking.
I used full flap before the final turn and it sat real nice on approach, landing speed was much slower than I had expected and was down and stopped in about 50yrds.
My homemade trailing link undercarriage legs worked really well on the grass strip.
Looking forward to getting out again.

Sapac just came out with a 100mm EDF version with a composite fuse. It is the same size as the AMD Hawk (55" wingspan). It looks as though it could be converted to turbine fairly easily. TamJets makes a set of retracts for it. I found an AMD Hawk and will be putting the Wren 44 Gold and Tam's retracts in it this winter.
This will be my second AMD Hawk. I flew the first one with the Wren 44 Gold and fixed gear. Great combination for a first jet. Had about 10 good flights on it until I tipped stalled it on an aborted landing. I have never seen a plane snap so quickly before! I got caught by inexperience with turbine lag as I tried to power up and go around. It did not have wing fences and would probably have benefited if I did. I am eager to try again with Hawk #2.
Does anyone still sell the wing fences?

Just cut them out of 1/16'' ply, there is a drawing on here somewhere or maybe on the RCgroups thread

Thanks.........I found the template last night. I have seen both single and bouble fences on each wing. Is the second fence needed or is one good enough?

Never seen them with double fences, one works fine and is more scale. They do need the fences helps a lot, I also have set my aileron neutral position just up a fraction, helps to add a bit of washout to the tips and help prevent tip stalling.
I also have about 4mm up (crow braking) at the moment when I put on the flaps, going to try about 6mm next day out. tip stalling and spining in is the one big thing you hear about with these Hawks so this all helps.
I am amazed sometimes at how the ailerons are set on lots of models, many with them below centre (down) this has a big effect if the ailerons are at the tip.

During my first flight I noticed that the nose would dip quite a bit when the flaps were deployed. This happened at both half and full flap settings. I mixed in about 4 degrees of up elevator with the flaps fully deployed (approx 40 deg) which took care of the problem. I was planning to mix in some additional up elevator to give it a little Crow breaking as well. I will probably set up Hawk #2 this way.
Thanks, Mark

Anyone have any leads on a Canopy? I am unfortunately still looking. I may have to craft my own or look for a new airframe. :-(
I emailed AMDHOBBY.UK (2X) but have yet to hear back from them.
Has anyone else had a canopy come apart in flight too?
What is the concensus on turbine powerplant? I have an E-turbax on 12S but want to go turbine.
Wren 44 Gold, Wren 54 MkII/III, P-60SE or someting else?
Love my little Hawk and would love to keep it going!
