I'm on the verge of getting an ARTF Hawk, but still have the inkling to persevere with my PJP Hawk, now that I've got it to this stage. As for the L39, what was vertical performance like? Paul's really hauled up high! Real test will be the maiden. I've bought GWS/Supertec micro MG servos 5.4kg torque for all surfaces, except the elevator which needs to be higher torque as i'm going to use the central mounted setup with one servo.
I wont side track this thread with L39 business

You will love the Hawk when you get to fly it , looks great in the air. I just have to have the Skymasters one
The Airworld one would be good, but its just too expensive[&o]

Congrats on the Maiden, John. pity about the bounce on the landing. Not sure if this apply to the hawk, but most people I saw landing with small amounts of flaps , bounced high, or cartwheeled the plane. (happened several times with the BVM bandits and CAI raptor) this stopped when the guys started to land with full flaps or then no flaps and speed brake.

Has anybody ever heard of MBL?
It's an Austrian company that sell/produce arf kits of all kind of aircraft. I stumbled onto them trough a german store, www.lindinger.de
Te reason I'm asking this, is because they have an arf Hawk, for DF 46. up to 91. engines , and it might be the same as the AMD Hawk. Will a OS91/ramtec unit fit in the AMD Hawk? And what is to be expected of flight performance? I have an Avonds F 15, but it is underpowerd and not much fun to fly. Turbines are beyone my financial possibillity's, and I'm looking fore something that works better
Thanks for your time!
Didier

mugenkidd, I'd answer about plumbing but I'm early in the construction and also going ducted fan instead of turbine (this is my first jet). Let's see some pictures of yours and maybe that will get conversation started
BTW, did you strip the paint off your jet before you gave it a T-45 scheme? If so, how did you strip the paint? I was thinking acetone...I just want to re-do the Red Arrows scheme better on mine.
Anybody know of a remote needle valve assembly for the OS 46 VX-DF? I'd like to mount one but I can't find any while doing a net search.
Didier, your link is somewhat confusing...I only see a business consulting firm advertisement. Is there a link on that page to follow?

I just've just seen that the link is not so clear, try this: http://shop.lindinger.at/ProductDeta...3D20%26SP%3D40
If it should not work, go to Lindinger.at, click "motorflug",
motorflugfertig/vollgfk
motorflugmodell arf 1.1-1.7m
scroll trough pages "next 20" 3 times, and you should see it...
thanks!

cubeleo, the hawk is painted in the molds so it cannot be stripped. The method I use has worked pretty well in the past and its the same that I've done on my hawk. First I rub the entire plane down with 000 steel wool to get rid of any of the glossy finish, I do this to the monokote and fiberglass. Then I rub the entire plane down with acetone. After this I make sure its clean and prime/then paint. I actually got these instructions from Byron Originals on how to paint over the monokote covering on their foam wings. I'll try to post some pics of my turbine plumbing when I get a chance.

looking good!I still haven't finished my replacement canopy, but I am working on my SM Hawk at the moment. Have you seen the shots of Stephan Volker's Hawk? What a model

My CG is 10mm behind the instruction version with empty main tank, when the tank is full the CG is as reccomended. I am using all elevator / aileron throws as per instructions and the model flew very smooth.

John,
Where did you get your replacement canopy? The canopy which came with my Hawk is in terrible shape--not very transparent, quite blurry and cloudy, and in irregular patterns...downright ugly.
Sonnich, your finish looks great! Fly it well! Two questions for you. 1. What kind of paint did you use? 2. How far below the fuselage does your nose gear extend when measured from the fuse bottom to the bottom of the tire? Without some modification, I think I can only get about 10cm, which at first guess seems far too short.

There are no replacement canopies available as yet. My supplier can't keep up with kit demand. I have made up a frame in balsa and am in the process of carving / sanding a blue foam canopy which I wll cover in glasscloth / epoxy and paint black.

I had the pleasure of flying John Wrights AMD Hawk at the weekend.
It weighs 10.5 lbs and is fitted with a Wren 44 and Wren tailpipe.
In answer to some of the questions.
1) it ground handles perfectly
2) take off track was spot on.
3) small flap deflection for takoff (it accelerates very quickly)
4) takoff run was about 20 yrds on tarmac.
5) Flys really well, right in the groove, bags of power with the 44 great vertical.
6) Slow speed is good, no tendancy to tip.
7) 4 point rolls are no trouble.
8) will climb on knife edge.
9) Landing is a piece of cake, about 45 deg flap deflection, lands very slow with full control.
I have to admit, i love this plane, great value, great flyer.
If i did not have a full hanger at the moment i would be tempted, but any time John needs a pilot........i will be there

I had my first flight on a .46 powered Hawk at Austin, the same one that Shok had flown, It is underpowered and has to be flown very carefully. This was with 15% nitro, heli fuel.
More Nitro? looking at upgrading to an .82 if I can find a pipe for it.

. I did add the wing fences, dunno if it helps or not but the thing is stable as a rock. Really quite trainer like in a way. I've got an issue or two to resolve other than the pipe. It feels very noseheavy in flight, on #3 I added 2 ounces of tail weight, on #4 I moved the Rx pack back 4". It STILL feels noseheavy. OTOH the way the stab trims out I don't have much up throw, maybe a 1/2" or so. I'm going to pull the thrust tube out and do whatever is needed (including whacking some slots out on the fuse side to let the stab LE's clear) to get 1" of up elevator from where nuetral is at the moment before I move the CG back any more. The takeoff roll was pretty long on pavement with full up applied for quite a while before it rotated into a 20-30 degree climbout. The climb angle was quite good, the roll rate was slow but very safe with the recommended throws, the recommended flap throw does steepen and slow the approach some and there was no discernable trim change on the elevator with flap deployment. Speed was decent, nothing to complain about but it definately isn't a rocket

Hello all, I have been watching this thread with some interest since bidding for an AMD Hawk (bought second chance for £118!) thought I could not lose out on the deal... What a supprise to find prompt reply to email, quick delivery and best of all a product of great quality (for three x the price I would stil be a happy camper!)
The kit is very complete with finnished hatches and canopy (well fitting) the whole a/c is well painted(even the wings) with the decals fitted correctly then clear-coated.
I was looking forward to stripping the whole airframe and starting again, maybe I'll get my chance after the first mission!
I will make re enforcements for a turbine installation and maybe the u/c mounts using aero- poxy.
All I need now is a turbine for £100 and I will be sorted!
Regards
Chris.
