And they want to make our lives more difficult getting our turbine waivers ?

Give me a break, that's stupid and irresponsible to do that crap around children and all those people like that. I dont care how good you are, anything can go wrong.

I couldn't agree more with Johnny. Stupid only begins to describe how dangerous that was. After that video he shouldn't even be allowed to compete in any AMA sanctioned event for some period of time.

Not only to echo what Johnny and Marty just said, but the retard-pilot states after landing and noticing that something failed "cheap Goldberg *****!" So not only is the dude an unsafe idiot, he's so irresponsible that he installs what he considers to be cheap gear on a plane that he intends to hover right next to folks who likely have no idea that their life is actually at stake! What a MORON!!!! And Dave Brown fears us! JEEEZZZZZ!!!!

To me, the real problem is this. Model airplanes? At a keg party? With GIRLS? Talk about the finest form of birth control...just whip out a model airplane.

Ditto!!!!! You know what the funny thing is? I could be mistaken, but I really think I know that guy!!! I believe he used to fly at Blue Angels many years ago before we lost the field by the Whitestone Bridge in the boogie down (Bronx, NY). I remember being very impressed with his flying expertise, nevertheless, that was irresponsible. Regards....

Is that the guy named Junior?

As far as "AMA pulling his license..."
Do you really want to go down that road? Think it through for a while.

I can't wait to see what DB writes about this guy. I am writing my AVP to have him banned from any AMA field! He is a risk to us all, and Iam sure that he is not alone.

Have him BANNED?

Is that right?
Is that like the famous incident(which is fiction) of Dave Brown threatening to pull Terry Nitsch's AMA if he flew Jim Weigle's Concorde?

Are you quite sure you want AMA to be that kind of enforcement agency? Are you sure you want them passing judgement on you in that form?

What does this really have to do with AMA, anyway? I mean, he is in obvious violation of the AMA safety code, there is no way AMA could be involved in this.

Man, not knowing what was going to happen during this video, I was ready to look away at any moment. I can't see how that would be worth the risk of injuring or killing someone to show off your skill.... Those spectators are just as crazy, I would have been hiding behind a tree!

scaleman, i truly have to think, if those people there, really knew how dangerous that was, i am sure the would have ran out of the pool. in the beginning of the video, listen to the camera man, he is not to thrilled with the idea either.. but then again this video was shot almost 5 years ago. maybe he has grown up?

easytiger,

that is a good point, and one that a lot of AMA members do not understand. The AMA does not govern what is done with RC planes anywhere but at AMA facilities. This blatant act of stupidity in the video is clearly out of AMA jurristiction, however i could see this actually falling under some kind of criminal violation of the law... like "wreckless endangerment" !! going back to the AMA issue, and if they can pull someones membership or privileges based on somehting done outside of their juristiction : Compare this to a drivers license. If you take your car on private property, or to a (legal) drag strip, and you are racing it, or breaking 150 MPH, skidding all over the place , and hitting other cars on the track (all part of the game ) ... the state can not pull your drivers license for this as the location of the driving is out of their juristiction, and all participants understand the risks involved. If you however take your car on private property, and line up 20 of the local kids in front of a plywood ramp and try jumping your car over them, then this becomes a criminal offense.

wojtek, i do agree with you, but like everything else, i guess you just have to wait till someone gets hurt or worse before something is done.

i am almost 100% sure, this is not the only time someone has done something so stupid. it just happened that someone there had a video camera.

There is no such thing as an AMA faciltiy. AMA covers you all of the time.

If he hit someone and had AMA coverage, do you think for a minute the AMA would not get sued?? And would likely have to pay a lot to someone (lawyers, etc) to get out of it?

If he is not in the AMA, then AMA would never get sued.

Would this video be as exciting if it were a helicopter? Probably not.
Really, How much different is this than flying your helicopter around? people are often this close at fields when helicopters are flying.
This guy is obviously an expert at the sticks, but made poor judgement. This guy can hover in his sleep.
Is there ever really a safe distance?
What would be more dangerous, this airplane or a helicopter?
Im feeling guilty for flying my shok flyer in my garage, backyard, living room, and front yard.

scott, i think your really missing something here, this 33% plane is alot different then your shok flyer, and when you do fly your shok flyer, do you have several people under it, with no where to run? not to mention, are you drinking alchohol when you fly?

now this would be totaly different if there no people around, then he would be considered just foolish and stupid, one can only imagine what would happen if the plane fell to either side and crashed.

it was just a poor and stupid judgement call on the pilot.

Multiple responsabiliy here: owner of the pool , pilot and his 'entourage', and those who were only watching without reaction to convince that man to stop this. i guess, the pilot will not stop choosing such a 'remarkable' place to fly his thing. Frightning. Planes should only be tolerated at airfields.
