The AMA limits Jets to 200 mph.. So there is no demand to set any record.
At many of the jet events I have gone to, Many of the faster planes are flown
very responsable with no diving and fairly far out..
bottom line...nobody keeps track...

Some info I just found:
Current turbine speed record is held by Enrique Broens, of Curitiba, PR, Brazil, using a modified Super Hot Spot. 678 km/h, about 425 mph.

The standard Behotec JB130 holds the world speed record for a model airplane at 576Km/h (360mph). Not sure about which airplane it was. Once I find out I will let you know.

Most full size, speed records all head on a close course, with no diving, basically going
around in a large circle to neglect wind.
Any RC plane, Glider or Turbine, diving from high above is not a true measure
of airplane performance. The plane MUST have the power to maintain its own speed
other wise its just a brick... hahah

Thx Arthur for pointing this link.... and I believe that this record is temporary, and very prone to be
beaten in our next speed event in Curitiba if weather permits.
About the criteria of the max speed achievable of a plane is a never ending story... people can argue that dives didn´t count, only horizontal speed, but then you can argue that you need to fly in a closed circuit, and then at what altitude? and what size of circuit? and for how much time? with pylons or in a oval path? there are infinite ways to measure speed, but we choosed the simplest and purest: go as fast as you can, doing whatever you want, and bring that GPS intact to make the speed reading..(of course, you can´t do this attaching it to a falling brick)
And about if this is official or not, I don´t care if the FAI,FBI, or the Tibetan Bureau of Aerodynamics make it official or not.. I simply want to have fun and go fast!
Best regards, and a happy new year to all, Enrique

Yes Enrique, that´s what you get for getting together a nice Jet eventwith lots of people, lotsa fun, jets, Jet A-1 and the media. But you did something wrong: You went and did it in the lil´ol´country of Brazil and you made your own dam rules. You didn´t stick to the establishment, you did not say "yes sir" to any governing body. Shame on you You just went out and won what you organized. Next time go to the US and play by the rules you Bast....
Will somebody go out to the dessrt and fly really fast, register it and show it here. And $$$crew the rules.
Happy New Year

Maybe Mr. Chavez knows better about breaking rules than anyone else, heh, Pedrito? Also, the little old country of Brazil eats Venezuela for desert, buddy... grow up.

.....and the USA eats all of us for supper
but because of the rules you still have not made a Speed Event to obtain a record a reality. Read Eddie Weeks thread and the discussions that are going on there and they are very interesting, all for the sake of putting on the SAFEST event possible, but at the end they may have to break the rules to actually do the event. Hopefully it will be sanctioned by somebody(AMA, FAA) and it will be official and we will all enjoy it her with a nice coverage and nice pictures like I enjoyed Enrique´s event. In Brazil or Venezuela or in any other Latin American country for that matter, there might not be so much red tape to organize one of these events as far as permits go, but believe me, there is other dificulties that make it very admirable that such an event took place in Brazil before the US.
My dear friend Arthur you obviously did your homework on International Politics but it is very child like to smear a couple of facts you know on me to make a point. I had the pleasure of living in your great country and accquired a taste for many of the aspects of american culture, but I would not think you are like Timothy McVeigh or something or other sadly famous americans. Actually I am rather passionate about your History of Aviation or WWII or Korea and Vietnam. Those are Incredible tales of achivement and one of the things that got me into RC in the first place.
But i will say this again and please don´t take it the wrong way dear Arthur: Go to the dessert and fly FAST and when it happens (I know it will eventually) I hope Enrique can go with his Super Hotspot and show his stuff.
Best regards to all

C´mon gentlemen.. don´t discuss here which country could eat the other , besides the simple fact that it is not elegant, the eated country could be indigest...
I would like very much to participate on a U.S. speed event, but there is a problem for now, Eddie´s event is legally classified as a UAV evaluation meeting and that have some implications.... I hope that if everything goes well with the first one, the next ones will fall in the "sport" category, and then for sure I will attend it.
As an alternative, in november we are going to repeat the event here in Curitiba, and It would be great to see more participants from other countries....

You must've learned very little in the US my friend if you talk to someone like that. Its a shame that cowards like you only have the courage to say things like that behind a screen and not in person.

I think, though, Peter Days was just being funny, my take was that he did not mean for it to be taken seriously.

Yes Curtis, I was being funny, and it is obvious Enrique understood that. Now I can´t understand why Mclure Mitch did not see that

I have flown a radio control aircraft on several instances over 500 knots. However, it was a MQM-107 drone with a 900 lb. thrust turbine. These don't qualify as RC models I guess. Just thought someone might enjoy that. Bob

If you can fly it just with your eyesight and no other device, you can bring it here to the races... (of course, you should manage to land it with the GPS intact)
