Graupner 75year event at Kirschiem Tek in Germany last year.
A large scale Extra and a full size one in a formation aerobatics display, some of the best RC flying I've seen.
Hopefully one of our German friends has some video footage and can post it up here.
Here's two pics, one of the model Extra (painted in the full size colours), the other of a flypast

Perfect rolling circles on an F4 flown by Malchione. 2 totally blind dead stick landings behind the trees by Adil Nasim.
Wojtek hitting a coffee cup with a trainer, 1 foot off of the ground on an uneven grass runway (although I think the actual hit was luck).

The post says no names, so I won't mention one....SOME of you might know him, but I doubt many would.
One of the fellows at our field was, back in his day, a fairly regular participant in various national and international pattern events. Marriage, a few kids, etc, has put an end to those days.
USUALLY, he'll come out to the field once a week or so, hang out for a few hours, and just have a good time with the rest of us. He'll fly foamies, or toss a funtana around, or every so often bring his 40% Extra 300 for a thrill....but again, nothing too "serious", he just enjoys the company and the flying.
About 2 months ago though, he shows up with one of his old pattern ships...a custom design of his own, and one he successfully sold for a few years when he was building/competing regularly. He lit her up, and off he went.
[X(] [X(]
I've NEVER seen anything like it. The precision, the grace, the control. It was simply stunning to watch. I've seen various demos of numerous planes by uncountable pilots...some have been _COOL_, others _AMAZING_, a few _INCREDIBLE_...and whatever adjective might come to mind.
But this....this was _ART_.
I told him later "______...THAT was why the rest of us mere mortals want to fly airplanes."

I believe at the 2005 3W Airshow Thomas Gleissner did a low fly by twice with his BAE Hawk and both times put the centerline tank in the short grass. Talk about touch and goes.

actually, the servo mounting blocks were not glued in properly ( only CA) .... here is a reenacment of the servo mounting procedure that caused both servos in both wings to simultaneously depart ... flutter was the after efect ...

Alan, i will give you credit were it is due
... While we are on the topic of being "impressed" by a flight performance, i do have to say your first complete turbine flight ( without blowing up the forest) went excellent with your BobCat last week ... nice smooth take off, smooth flight, and nice landing with no bounces, and it came back all good .. also, nice recovery on that failsafe hit that took your turbine out on your second flight .. good landing on your first flameout
..... I was not impressed however with the paint job on your all white bob cat .... I don't know if you were going for a Picasso look there , but the 3 pieces of uncut monokote trim sheet just did not cut it, and did not leave me "impressed"
i do also have say that your trim sheet application procedure seems to mimick that of your servo installation technique .... just like the servos in the Grippen, your "paint scheme" departed the plane rather quickly

Impressive flying? At a jet fly? At the 2004 Wangaratta jet fly we were given a demo of a full size P-40. I said to my buddy if we are lucky he will do a low pass, maybe really low like 100 feet. After a big dive to build up speed (probably close to 400 mph) he made a pass at less than 10 feet, so low he was raising dust! Impressed, you bet! - John.

I was stationed in Japan during the 1986-87 time frame and went to a big Japanese model meet in Saitama, Japan. Mr Saito was there flying his big bipe with his new radial engine. But the real crowd pleaser was Hanno Prettner that flew his own design pattern ship in an absolutely incredible routine. Pure poetry in motion. I will never forget it.
