I own around 15 grand of violett's stuff, an airplane he doesn't make or support anymore for me personally to fly ain't gonna hurt anybody. So up in arms violett fans, I don't think that's gonna happen.

You have not been around long enough to know about the loooong memories these guys have.
You'd better get one of those new Spread Spectrum radios, just to be safe!

Anyway...I like the pics of the A-4s. Obviously, they actually exist, the others, I don't know...does the AV8R picture look familiar to anyone?

I'm only going by what Barry told me at FIJR. He could have been wrong or I could have mis-understood him. Sorry if I'm out of line on that.

I'm sorry I'm talking in actual product, if you're talking cost of getting flying, engines, raios, etc. You're right, it's much more than that.
Ian, it's not that difficult, although I will say I learned that he has an anti cloning method built into the bobcat fuse. Next time you see one up close, look at the fairing where the center section meets fuse. It is not straight, it's beveled. The original molds are more than two halves, it's at least three parts and possibly four.
I have to pull my parts a little green to get them out as I did mine in two. It's a lot of work to do all this, but I wanted a repeatable airplane and BV's bobcat flight performance is hard to beat. If anything all this work is a tribute to a fine flying model and the fact that I crashed mine at FIJR and have this damn Bobcat travel case that needs something back in it ...............

Todd, I'm just kidding aboout the ultra bandit statment. I'm not taking anything out of the mouth of Bob, believe me. His worst piece made for a bobcat is untouchable in regards to quality. My fuse weighs a full 8 ounces more than his and that was before I primed it. Have not weight it since.
Just a fun project from someone interested in seeing the process.

Hey, only Bob speaks for Bob, and you might find his attutude towards it is quite different from what you are thinking.
I was told very explicitly that the real reason for moving his ARF manufacturing to the USA from the Far East is to keep the tooling under control.
Again...I only speculate. I don't speak for Bob!

Ben, that thread was just to get a handle on what I had. Since I had all that, I decided that I could lose a few pieces in the molding process and not lose anything to refer back to.
Since then I've got cad files on all the laser cut pieces in the kit and cad files on the landing gear as well.
Anything can be reversed engineered with enough time. Again, all of this for my own personal use, I will never sell any of it.

This thread could be the all time greatest RCU squirelcage ever!
Speaking of which...
How can someone be "the online voice of Jetcat USA!" and answer the phone when you call jetcat, and offer customer service...and yet...
"Not a rep!"
How does that work?

Whatever....... I've had conversations with Bob about the reason for building the ultra bandit stateside, and as best as I could read him, it had more to do with the learning process of putting it all together than it did for fear of copying. The chinese can buy one and copy it in a few weeks. You can't run a business in fear of splashes. You have to build a product that someone will buy on an emotional level.
It's not the guy in texas building an outdated airplane in his garage, it's the 20 guys in China working out of a hanger.

I heard differently, from "insiders", that the real reason is not quality control at all, but protection.
I happen to agree with you 100%, that spending a lot of time thinking about people cloning your stuff is counterproductive, better to spend your time making new stuff, but I don't know if bob feels that way, he has gone after people before.
Anyway...the AV8R is real, too, I checked out the pics. Sporting a Funsonic. Not vaporware, looks to be real.

So when a guy buys a kingcat and the previous owner had landed it upside down and rather than buy BVM boom, he uses his good boom and makes a mold and then puts the cloned boom on his kingcat and goes and fly's it. When he sells the kingcat has he broken the law? Does he deserve this suppsed wrath from BV? I think not.
Like I said in a different thread, this stuff only becomes a big deal when you get on RCU.
By the way, there are cloned Bobcats and a cloned kingcat out there flying right now, I have seen picture proof. And there is a plan in Europe to copy the ultra bandit. None of these are being built to sell, just simply to enjoy.
THere are also cloned av8r's roo's rookies' F-16's F-18's blah blah draco...........
So what............

On the subject of the Ultra Bandit... I had a little time to review this plane at FIJR. I have to say.... This airplane is absolutly the pinacle of fabrication on a production level. Have to give credit where credit is due, Bob has mastered the craft with this one. Expensive, hell yes... worth every cent? Guess that depends on how many extra cents you have to play with. If I had that kind of change to throw down, I'd have one!

Ditto that statement, you and I both were drooling over that airplane. I explained it in another thread what a massive undertaking that airplane was. My guess is he spent ever bit of 200k getting it ready and probably more.
An excellent design and incredible quality. No BS. It's that good.

Deserve Bob's wrath? Well...what does "deserve" have to do with it?
Also...you need to remember that there is BOB, and then there is some of his more virulent fans.
Me, you're not bothering ME, and Bob does not need MY help defending himself, and I'm not condemning or condoning anything here, I'm not judging you or nothin', just wondering what Bob would say. I don't know. Maybe he could care less.
As far as UltraBandits, well, people can ***** about the price, but the fact is the guys who are acutally going to BUY one aren't complaining(I'm NOT one of those guys!) and Bob knows that. And more power to him, much better to sell one $10000 plane than three $3000 ones, I'd do the exact same thing. Say what you want about the guy, but he earned what he got, and his customers are almost always very, very pleased, he must be doing SOMETHING right!

Why should it matter to anyone, including Bob?? If I understand the intent of doing your own mold, it is to build your own airplane, correct? Molded off a fuse you paid for, correct? With no intention of selling the parts? Where's the beef [sm=confused.gif]....

Well, I didn't copy a kangaroo, that tells you something. I mean if you're gonna copy something you might as well copy the best
Well, I didn't copy a kangaroo, that tells you something. I mean if you're gonna copy something you might as well copy the best
So what do you think will happen to you if you go out and splash bunch of $100 bills for your own use?
I just do not get the logic here.
