Default Jet-Tronic valve problem ??

Using a Jet-Tronic valve on a set of CJM trike retracts...................works perfectly.

When I turn the radio off after a flight, I get a 'ppsssttt' as the valve seems to vent the pressure from the lines & cylinders............though the air bottle pressure is not effected. On a couple of occasions when pushing the model over bumpy ground back in the pits, I've knocked one main leg off it's locks and it's gone down on a wingtip.

Is this venting of air normal ??..................I've checked it with gear in the up position as well, then turned off, and it still vents. My ATV's (MC 16/20 radio) are set to 100/100%.....................have I done something wrong, missed something in the set up, or is this normal ??.....................it's not much fun carrying a 30lb model back to the pits every time after a flight !!

Thanks in advance.

Phil

I've got the same problem. Waiting to hear what the cure is as well.

the valve is designed to vent with no rx power or radio signal you will have to keep the radio switched on till you reach the pit park area

Thanks Mick........................unfortunately, this isn't always possible. Most of my 'jet' flying is done at shows, so getting the Tx peg back to Tx control has to be ASAP.................we don't normally get the chance to keep the radio on until we're back in the pits.

Is there no other way round this problem ??

Well you have to wait for the turbine to cool down anyway! If you walk the plane back to the pits right after you shut down,
then you will have enough time to walk back and the turbine will be cool! Then you can give your TX in.

The other cure is, use the Inwood models electronic retract valve. When you switch off, the air pressure is left on the retract down position.
The valve is also much cheaper.

actually there is a way phil, asuming you fly pcm just set the failsafe, safe and hand in your tx this will give you some more time alternatively,, make the bu**ers wait.

Hi Demon,

I have used the inwood retract & brake valve units for around 2 years with no issues. They are not so good looking, but they do not need any setting up.
Just make sure you connect the up & down pipes correctly or, the retracts go up when you switch off. Not a good idea.

I have had problems with Jetronic valves.

Simply install a mechanical valve, closing it before shutting off the radio............

Thanks Jim............

Ron...............good suggestion, I'll remember that one for my F5 where I'll have access to the full air system in the nose. Unfortunately, the current model has the whole system apart from filler valve & pressure guage housed in the wing centre section, so it's totally unaccessible...............re-plumbing to fit a mechanical shut off valve thats accessible via the front hatch would be a right pain in the A**E !!

Maybe splice into the "down" side of the system to hold pressure. It would only take the addition of a length of airline and a valve to a location in the canopy area. It appears you must remove the wing for transport, so accessability should be no problem.......
