Hi AGR....didn't put a tach on it, still running it a bit rich as it only had about a half a tank thru it, so I'm nowhere near top RPM yet.
No issues at all with the Pitts. Thanks to your review, and the heads up on the back pressure problem with the stock pipe, I'm glad I went with the Pitts muffler. It was great out there this morning,..had the whole field to myself..Can't wait to get it in the air again..

Guys there are several ways to deal with the exhaust exit facing the wrong way...a couple ideas have been posted recently, I have some more to offer:

Mike Pastro designed a few pushers 10 years or so ago, and the way he overcame the back pressure issue was to attach a small tab of brass strip on the front edge of the exhaust nozzle..sort of a wind deflector...simple and it worked (I own one ( or rather what is left of it..of his prototypes). Simply drill a hole and use a sheet metal screw to attach the brass strip to the exhaust outlet

Mousse can mufflers were the rage a few years ago....for a few bucks you can build one to replace the back end of your current muffler, but have your exhaust come out at an angle facing the rear of the plane. 2-56 or 4-40 fully threaded rod would hold the whole works together..

There are at least 2 off the shelf hardware items that can be purchased at a hobby shop that will reverse the exhaust flow.. I want to check them out first, and it it looks like it will work, I will post the part numbers.

The hobbico deflector is not a real good solution, because it is flexible and vibrates and buffets in the air, as well as gets oil underneath with the result that it will eventually wiggle loose (BTDT ! )

That is an amazing flying site you have there with excellent facilities..... I wish we had site like that in the UK.

Hey guys,

A friend of mine just got one bobcat, with Jett 91LX engine and Spring Air 305 retracts.

We would like to get some info about:

1. installing the retracts - does anyone have a write up about the 305's installation ?
2. proper pusher props for the Jett 91 ? (no reverse crank was available unfortunately)
3. how to make the wing detachable from the fuse and not glued, but still properly firm ?

thanks for the tips !

1) have not done that yet
2) contact Jett Engineering they should be able to make you one for about $25 + cost of standard crank. http://www.jettengineering.com/
3) I put screw eyes into the wing, in ftont of the wing tube, and slots in the fuse for the eyes to to pass thru and then 2 #64 rubberbands just like the SIG Something Extra. Also I added to flat landing gear staps from the fuse to each wing panel at the tail end of the fuse.

Well here is my baby. Using a Hobby People Magnum .52 with a 10x6 APC prop. Not getting the speeds I want. Looks like from the feedback I should try a 11x7. First flight the stock landing gear craked the wing on one side. With her new stems she now lands nice and smooth. It looks like everyone's CG is about 10.25 to 10.5 from the leading edge. It that with the fuel tank full or empty??? Still one of the funnest planes I have had and she turns some heads at the field.

I was going to put my wren in her but I have decided to go with the OS 55AX I am using this model as a lead in before I fly my AMD Hawk with the wren in her

Well after reading the issues with pressure from the forward facing exhaust. I made a new one.
The baffles have been removed. The tuned length is longer as I have replaced the missing section with
A hollow pice of pipe, by doing this i can remove the long silicon joiner used originally.
This is my first ali weld so its ugly but strong and sealed,it will also deal with the pusher pipe issues.

Crazy4Flight , we really wanted to go for a reversed crank so we asked Dubb Jett about it and he said he doesnt have any in production and it would take 6 months for it to be ready. Not very pracrtical.. [&o]

With all aircraft, if there is a bunch of structure over the wing and nothing under the wing, hang it inverted and look for the CG This way you won't be dealing with a CG over the point of Center of suspension, makes it easier. Also, the ability of the plumb bob to point directly at the CG makes this method easier than having it point on the fuse where you have to assume and guess where the spot on the wing is.

I'm assuming with this though that you are using a CG sling which is a simple enough device to make. It consists of two large loops of heavy cord or light rope hung from a central point, I have a screw going into an exposed rafter. These loops go over the wing of the aircraft OR the back of the wing and around the spinner held in place with the prop on some aircraft. On the same point that you hung the loops of rope, hang a plumb bob. Nothing fancy, a pencil stub, a nut anything with a little weight to it, or an honest to good ness plumb bob, you decide. Now, the airplane itself has been turned into a plumb bob and it points the way for a line from the hook towards the center of the earth just like the the plumb bob is doing. Therefore, the plumb bob is pointing at the center of gravity of your airplane. You can balance your aircraft in 2 axis's with this method, flip it sideways and catch the 3rd and no EXACTLY where that point is on your airplane.

That being said, if you have a Heavy aircraft, close to or over the AMA waiver weight, it might behoove you to get 3 of those digital scales and just do a weight and balance calculation on your airplane. It isn't that hard, but takes more typing and off topic babble than we should do in this thread.

Mattgrant, nice job! I have one that I'm just about to glass the wings, retracts are installed and just finishing the details on the booms and off to the paint room.

Where did you get the clear canopy?

Angus
