does anyone know where to get bags for a bvm mig or even better a good source for the raw material to make a nice wing bag. i, being in the world of orhtotics, have the ability and the means to sew my own. and i would like to make them for all of my models. barry

my daughter and I made all of wing bags. we went to the local fabric store, picked up some quilting material and some linning, and some foam. i place the foam between the linning and the quilting fabric, and we close the end with velcro sewn on. I added the foam, this way i can stack the wings during transport and not get damaged

Barry - I've picked up various types of quilted (etc) material from fabric stores in order to make my own wingbags in hte past, and it always bugged me that the material was so ridiculously expensive.
When I was looking for protection for my Hunter wings, I stumbled across a pretty cheap alternative - headliner material, as used in trucks etc. This stuff is 1/4" foam with a material lining on one side, and can be used single width, or doubled up to 1/2" foam with material lining on both sides. I'm not talking about a headliner kit that comes precut for a given vehicle, but instead a roll of 50 ft or more that you can simply cut your desired shapes from.
I forget where I bought mine, but a few minutes with google / bizrate etc ought to find you several sources.

I got a set for my 46% Ultimate awhile back. Great price and the quality is first rate. They will custom make what you want.
I know some that have used headliner material as well. Works great if you want to DIY.

YO! Barry! Hit the fabric store after you make the pattern for the wings. Get dacron for the outer, batting for the padding, felt for the liner, THEN SEW! Do you have a cold or something? Went to see Bob, cockpits are finished, canopy. LOOKS GREAT! He's working on the wings, truing the flaps, needs the tail gear and main wheels. I have 2" tail wheels with aluminum wheel. Cooling flaps on the cowl are great, as well as other items. Took pics. Oh, on the bags, don't forget the zipper or Velcro. I have pics of the Wildcats. I need a muffler. He's at a semi-stall point before painting and finishing wings and empanage, needs the tail gear. Any more word from Robart? I'll be checking with you tomorrow. D.l

As an option consider a sail making wholesaler, I found that material picked up from a general store is not really up to the job as far a strength goes, sail material is mainly nylon based (strong) comes in all grades, colours and finishes, in addition you can buy thin foam as this is used to make padded covers for boats etc and edging ribbon which is neatly made so that it folds down the middle.

I've been using surfboard bags when my wing bags fill up. Take out my board put in some wings and fold the bag back on itself. Perfect.
They are way cheaper than big wing bags.

Not sure if it's the same stuff as you're after, but I bought rolls of foil-lined bubble-wrap from Home Depot a while ago. Used it to insulate the inside of my trailer. I still have a complete roll lying in the attic - if you're in the SJ area sometime you are welcome to drop by and grab it.
