Hi Paul, that's amazing that your Wren is still going well. How old is it now? 6yrs??
I sold the moulds and kinda wish I had kept them now.
The problem was getting them made.
The quality was ok but I hardly made any money.
Then there was the odd breakage during the drop from the moving post office aircraft. (no parachute I guess) I can't believe how rough the post office can actually be. It is their job after all to safely transport your box but they deny everything when you complain.

Hi,
I was adjusting the CG of my Hawk at 140mm behind the leading edge. Is that right?
With the CG and the plane set down I feel that the nose is a little heavy when lifted hands. I would compare the weight of the nose with another Hawk if possible. I put my tailwheel on a weight scale and recorded 460grams.
The hopper tank was full and the main tanks were half.

My Hawk weighs 6.041gr with batteries and dry.
I weighed the fuselage and wings separately because of the digital scale I used only accepts up to 5kg.

On a model like this where the tanks are in front of the CG i allways measure its position with the main tanks empty, just fuel in the UAT.
This is 'worst case ' rear CG.
140 to 145 mm is a good starting point for the CG.

Hi, everything that Paul says is spot on.
One thing I did find was that if the CG is too far forwards it climbs a bit as the speed builds up.
If you move the cg back a little the stab needs a little less "up" in there and it stops it climbing as the elevator becomes more effective at higher speeds.
Hope that makes sense?

Hi all, I've been flying my Fox hawk for about 18 months now and absolutely love it! It was great on stumax 110mm fan originally, but now got a jets munt vt80 and it's really come alive. Here's some onboard video I took yesterday...

Hi Sul1, I have a wren super sport in mine now, but the weight is giving me some concerns, it comes to 6.5kg with the UAT full. I can carry 2.4L of fuel in 4 tanks. What is your hawks weight?

Hi, mine weighs 6kg with the uat full and 6.5kg with the smoke pump and tanks fitted (I made it removable inside the drop tank). I have around 2l fuel and 1.2l smoke fuel on board and as you see from the video my field is pretty small. Without smoke it takes off in around 50m, with smoke is probably around 80m. Landing is within 50m I'd guess. Your weight sounds fine to me and you should have similar power to mine - vertical after takeoff no problem 
I use Crow braking for landing and find this really helps to slow it down. About 45 degrees flap and 5 degrees up ailerons. Good luck!

FWIW, my Fox Hawk flew as a 12S 6600mAh lipo 4kW EDF at 17.5lb (8.75kg) and flew and aerobatted very well. General handling was great. I was pleased to replace the EDF system with a Wren 44 Gold, saving about 4lb in landing weight and enabling much faster turnarounds without all that recharging of monster lipos. However, the plane did take off and land nicely enough at the heavier EDF weight.

Hi gordon, it was your rcgroups thread that sparked my interest in this plane. I too had a stumax fan, and it flew great at around 15lbs on 12s. Similar to your experience, charging big packs at the field is a pain and once I fitted the vt80 I never looked back!

I fly mine yesterday!
I can say that this jet is amazing. It flies very well with a lot of stability. I had four flights and full flap landing is like an trainer airplane! I'm very satisfied.
Next steps: Decals, scale cockpit, other details and smoke pump.

Hi Paul,Thanks. I'm in the Midlands, I fly at long Eaton not far from East Midlands airport. I remember seeing your hawk flying at Langar fly a fair few years back. Goes nice with the wren 44. I also built one from your plan 20 years ago with an ops 45. Them were the days
