RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
i'm doing now my turbine support for k80e . what do you thing is it correct ? i calculated with excel =DEGREES(ATAN(7/80))= 5,000644598 angle
by "down trust" is meant that the front turbine is pointed up and the thrust down . correct?
i want to know before i giving it to cnc.
thanks
also do i need some right to left angle for horizontal alignment?

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
I use 5 degrees down thrust, front of turbine pointing up. No torque from a turbine, so align dead straight with the longitudinal axis. I laid a arrow shaft taped to engine to get it dead straight.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Well it’s been a long wait but I think I have it all together now. I had posted way back almost the beginning and had mine close to ready when the bearing let go in my P-80.
Then took a break and almost completely took down my shop (walls in bad shape, roof leaking etc.) and started the remodel. Got the shop finished after a year or so with friends and family help and my P-80 back together with help from Mr. Redding at Mississippi after Burner I think it’s time if the weather will permit.
Also the (NO DRAMA IN THE SHOP Decal) from B-1 Bob.
Thanks Todd

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Hi Guys,
I was offered by a friend a Super Falcon 120. I am planing to fit a P-60 Jet Cat turbine, I heard some changes must be done for this model to flown safely with a turbine.
I tried to find some information on the Internet but I could not find anything up until now, is there anyone who have information about the re enforcement to be done for not having any bad surprise while flying her.
Regards.
Paulo

theres 162 other pages in this thread that most will suggest you read in regard to the work needed to make the airframe turbine friendly :-)

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Hey Guy's
My Falcon 120 is still going strong!!! I was just at Jet's over the Fraser coast 2011 which is the biggest jet meet in Queensland and put in a good number of flights on my falcon 120 after a major check of the aircraft. The turbine went in for a balance, the fuel tank was resealed, and the retracts have been replaced with the airpower RA-250 units which are much nicer than the one's she originally had in there. This meant that the original wheel wells didn't work anymore because I needed to shorten the mains, so I vac formed a set of replacement wheel wells.
The nose oleo was also replaced from the robart one to a Dreamworks trailing link unit which is also very nice and it has now cured all my retract problems other than on the first flight one of the airpower retracts o-ring's leaked and bleed all the pressure out of the tank causing a wheels up landing.[X(] the only damage was 3 blades of grass on the flap servos[8D]
I also let my flying buddy have a few circuits with the falcon because he has never flown a turbine model and now he likee!!
Thanks
dave

Last year (when I bought my Falcon) I checked back in the thread and people were using retracts and legs sold by Digitech specifically for the model.
Digitech no longer seem to do retracts, so does anyone know an alternative UK or European source for suitable retratcs & legs?

Try Colchester a1 models they may be able to help you.

Just had a thought, when I bought my Falcon no one manufactured an UC for it with trailing legs, I bought one for a CARF Flash and fitted that instead, admittedly it was from Sandor, but others should fit as well, these have short main legs so the wings need modifying somewhat to make them fit as the wheel wells and wings are designed to accommodate a very long UC to give the required prop clearance for the intended rear IC engine and prop.

Yes digitech were making/supplying retracts to suit various aircraft however that has all changed and now only supply generic retracts some may still do what you want but just because the advert says falcon 120 dos'nt mean they will actually fit as they may have done in the past.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
I just upgraded my retracts/oleo's a few weeks ago for the jet event and I used Airpower Ra-250 retracts and dreamworks trailing link nose oleo.
I made my own mains on my lathe but the trailing links sold by dreamworks were at a very resonable price, So I would have used their mains as well if I hadn't machined my own.
I had over 1/2 dozen flights at the event and had another 2 flights with the model yesterday and they are still nice and tight and working perfectly.
Thanks
dave

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Just maidened mine over the weekend.
My first turbine flight, and was probably one of the easiest maiden flights I've ever done. Real ***** cat. So stable.
Powered by the Kingtech K 80, only opened up the throttle mabee twice, a real powerhouse.
Ive been waiting probably 15 years or so to finally fly a turbine, and Saturday that came true, happy. Have to thank the boys from Ausjets here in Australia who helped make it happen, with good pricing and service, cheers Simon.
Done all the usual mods, including spliting the elevator which adds some more redundancy.
Very pleased.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
yep... this is a nice plane once you've reinforced it for turbine flight... i've 6 flights on mine and it actually flies like a pattern plane. On a K80 this plane will go vertical from take off....
I still need to increase the amount of flap as it needs as much drag as possible on the landing. Otherwise, it doesnt slow down and the only way to land is to reduce to idle and glide her in..... I am used to carrying 1/4-1/3 power on landing but falcon will still cruise around at those settings

Matt, knew you would like the Falcon. We had 5 Falcon's at our recent jet meet and all flew perfectly, and mine is now nearly 2 years old with about 60 odd flights, so I guess far more reliable than my old ducted fan jets. A couple of pics from the meet, with approximately 30 pilots and around 70 aircraft.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
I think over the coming years we are gonna see a lot more turbine flyers in Australia because of this Falcon/K 80 combo. Can only be good thing, more flyers/customers usually mean lower prices, so all good.
Theres a few of them up here in FNQ, very capable off grass. Just cant beleive how solid it is in the air. Ive had some nice large aerobats in the past and this flys every bit as good as them, but fast.
More flights on this week end : )
