Just off the phone with my brother. He took 5th in open, was 10th or 11th overall and highest placing American. Ribbe was 8th and Dustin was 9th in Individual. I didn't get the other places for the Americans, sorry, but they took 3rd overall. Volker was 1st in Individual and Tappin was 1st in Open. Top 4 in Open were the same and David and Seba switched spots for 5-6. In Individual, 1-2 same, 3rd was Alex Lau and 4th was Thomas Gleissner. He said the awards went off before it rained and now everyone is packing to head home.

I wish everyone a same trip home over there and can't wait to see the pics and vids from David and Dustin when I get back from the pattern team trials.

Another F86 shot. I'm building the Feibao model which is RTF and a little smaller. Anyone else out there got one?

Jason very interesting comments, . It was amazing this morning to see the pilots from all the countries flying free, without a routine and without Judges, They were unreal. You have to remember that the flying is not "down the field" they are all way beyond "B" cert and they are flying for ther team and country. This is pressure.

It could be the F-18 wing tip dance. It looks like they're scrambling from a sudden downpour. It's hard for us to understand Billy. I've pretty much forgotten what precipitation is like.
How 'bout you?

They should have the JWM at the Willow

After a good landing the model rocked its wings as the brakes were applied, and changed direction by about 30 degrees.
Always a possibility with narrow undercarrage jets.

This happened as it began to rain heavily and most of the crowd ran for cover. I got wet but saw the whole thing unfold.
Resulted in nose wheel damage which was repaired before the next round. (and a wet me)

Guys

I haven't had time to read through this post to see what information has got out, I'm just back in the office straight from the event-crazy that it takes 11hours to travel around 450 miles! It's now 12. 30am and I should really go home!
A few pixs to start with and I'll sort through my 400 shots later.
It was great to see so many friends and make many new ones at this "difficult" event, the organisers had a hard time getting it done-I'm sure there will be plenty talked about within the IJMC who needed to carry a good deal more work than they expected.
Just for now I'll say "Speedy" and "Crazy Dutch"....you needed to be there

Ok. thanks, sure looks like he's about to jump that thing. Glad the plane was OK.

Yeah Paul, It would be nice to see some rain. Nothing like green lush hills instead of this dry kindle we fly in.

Guys

A few more.

I travelled out to the event overnight the 4th-5th July leaving home 7.00pm for a 2.00am ferry from Holyhead into Dublin and on to Enniskillen, arriving just before 9.00am Thursday morning after little sleep.
The airfield was still in the process of being set up and it was obvious that the guys were struggling to get everything into position.
I met several modellers who had gone along to see if anything could be done to help and they ended up staying to help through the week before.
As it often the case the people were warm and welcoming, but it did surprise me how much last minute organisation was needed to get things in place.
I had offered sponsorship of turbine oil for the entrants and it troubled me that they didn't know where the first 50 tins were I had shipped in advance for the early arrivals. I had taken the remaining two cases with me which was a good job as the first two shipped were not found until half way through the second week!
This really set the tone.
The entrants many more experienced than the team organising, pushed for the things they needed and in the end we did have a competition, though the final mix up on the team placing totally deflated most of the teams involved and sadly this event will not be looked back on with as much joy as previous events.
The team of helpers did everything they could and reflecting afterwards I did have a good time with many friends.
The Dutch team helped out when Tom Wilkinson was taken i'll and several other people stepped in to help.
I was happy with my flights with an aeroplane I borrowed three days before the event-thank you Jeremy.
The English team were strong and we all got on well, our team manager Sir Bob kept us informed and did what he was asked to do-a perfect manager!
The standard this year was closer, with more models and pilots flying to a high level in the mixed conditions.
All the top models were gyro equiped and it showed-without one you will not win!
The large aeroplanes scored well in flight even though for me the floaty landings were far from scale, yet score well.
A few more shots here and more will be on the JMA site www.jmajets.co.uk later.

More

Our hotel provided a small neat flying area where myself and Paul Heckles entertained ourselves with my Razor 600E heli and Alfa Mig 15...the heli's in the fountain!
As always some new models were shown and the Comp ARF Spark was debute at the event.
The US team learnt a lot and Speedy learned to fly slower! You guys will be stronger next time.

Ahhh, the F-18 one wheel grabs before the other! Been there. Good to hear the damage was minimal.

Hi,

Just back from Ireland! It has been a long day. As has hinted, the event was successful, but underpowered from an organization standpoint.

Despite what was announced at the awards ceremony, the USA did finish 3rd as a nation. Congratulations to the Team.

The scoring can be seen here:
http://www.dutchjetteam.nl/gallery/score/score.html

As you can see, the individual class was VERY competitive this year... with high marks.

The level of competition is very strong (especially in the top half). It is quite strong as a whole.

I think the US has developed a broader group who understand how to compete 'over there'. if we can put in the effort, we can be very competitive. Dustin and David S are making strides in the use of Gyro's in larger models. I probably had the most experience with the 'static' competition this time.
I am proud of the entire group, and of the fact that all the models are in good shape.

FWIW, 3 of us flew the Spektrum Module system in our entries. I could start a new thread on this if there is interest. (all worked perfectly).

Hey glad to hear you are home, I am stuck in Chicago with hopes of getting home tomorrow...grgrrrrrr. To say I am not happy right now would be an understatement, something about ATC cancellation for too much traffic in the ORD area....huh....
Like Dave said, we came in third and I am extremely happy with everyones performance. The organizers have managed to group Dewey in the wrong classification, but that is a paperwork error, his scroe is the same, although he is much higher in the standings in the OPEN cassification. Trying to get anything corrected has been like pulling teeth for the past week.
Like Dave said, Lessons learned.
Congrats team...Thanks for allowing me to be a part of it.

Doc,

Sad to see you are stuck in Chicago!.... Well, anyway, I opened my Jet Case, and found some damage to the wing TE root in particular (several inches near flap well destroyed)... and the cockpit and equipment trays are all broken loose in the nose. Signs of some very rough handling by AA. Looks like my thoughts of going to the NATS are going down hill! I am downloading some photos that should give me a 'start' soon.
