Hope to see you at Temora, Just about finished doing my F-18 that is going to wang!
Nose wheel issues seem to be a prodominant factor on these 16s I had to shave 5 mil off the retract block to get it to lock properly and not collapse the nose gear on landing, all is well now.
regards
Todd

I guess I joined the FEJ crowd
Got a F16 (normal version) in tigermeet colours from a friend (unbuilt)
Going to be powered by a simjet1200, probably center-mounted. Batts all the way up in the nose.
Hope to be able to fly it off grass with some flaps, but we have a very short field (120m), so at least the first flights will be off a bigger field.
Going to try to keep it light!

I think it is a great pity that FEJ seem to moving into larger models. Fo me I prefer those for a Wren 54 or 44 gold... So much more going for them. Small is beautiful

Hi everyone, have just bought a second hand FEJ F16 and have noticed that the rear mount has been glued in at the wrong angle. There was a bit about this early on in this thread. What I want to know is, has anyone got the spare rear mount parts that they are not requiring (pref UK) ie you have mounted it centrally and the ply formers are going spare. I am going to have to dremel out the glue and will probably destroy the mounts as I do so, this is better than damaging the fus. If you have please advise and at what cost to me. Thanks Nick[8D]

If the angle isn't off too much you can glue some shims on the rails at the correct angle. That's what I had to do on my SM F16. I didn't notice the off angle til after the glue had set.

Yes I have looked at doing that but it puts the motor above the center line of the airframe, the angle up is about 10 degrees and is very noticable when looking at in profile. I know you can live with it but I would like to have it right, know what I mean!!!

I am instrested in the advanced F-16(1/8) with scale landing gear but I heard the scale gear is a little "weak" and it is necessary to land very smoothly. Is it correct?Dose anybody have experience about the scale gear with heavy landing?

It is a wren 54 that I have installed, a Wren SS would probably be more appropriate but Im not looking for outright speed and I have a huge take off area. One thing with U/C I have noticed is sometimes the front nose legs twists whilst retracting causing it to stick, I have tightened up the centering spring and it seems to have cured it. Just wondering if anyone had same problem and how they cured it, I also agree about the damping springs in the U/C as they seem very soft, so I am looking at "beefing" them up for my not so smooth landings!!! It is an amazing quality kit for the money and the new Hawk looks fantastic, does anyone know which kit they copied for the FEJ one, could it be the Skymaster kit?

as it comes from FEJ the nose retract won't lock in the down position at all (i doubt they've fixed this, i told them 10 months ago what the problem was with it when i got mine) so it'll collapse even on the take off roll, you've gotta tinker with the bellcrank (regrind a flat and rotate it) and pistons rod end length and you can get it to lock down and it's fairly strong then.
the least trouble is to mount rails and use a conventional non rotating retract, the intake duct is still molded to accept the nose wheel and you'll get a positive lock every time and nobody ever notices it being any different without looking up inside it.

Why anyone would go with the FEJ F-16 when you can get a custom painted Jet Legend one from the Global Jet Club from anywhere between $1650 - $2150 is beyond me.
Eastern, how can you say that the new Hawk looks fantastic when all they have up there is pictures of the full scale?!? AND they want 100% payment before then ever deliver anything - there are guys out there who are still waiting for their F-15's after 6 months and they've actually *started* shipping those.
I just don't get it, but I guess P.T. Barnum was right...

OK Bob, calm down!!! how many companies do you know who would send goods from China without 100% payment first. If you know any please pass on their details. Thanks. By the way my original reason for this post was to look for a rear engine mount and im still looking, so if you have one please let me know, thanks in advance.

No I wouldn't send anything without full payment either.
But I also wouldn't accept payment for something that wasn't even ready for the market and still isn't 6 months later.

I'm very calm, thanks. Its one thing to send money to China for a product that is shipping (I do that all the time), but yet another to send money for a *promised* product that likely isn't even under development yet and is behind 4 or 5 kits that haven't even started shipping yet and 2 or 3 more that are "shipping," but where there are already guys who have sent money and have heard "two weeks" for the past few months...
It is your money though...

Eastern,
You may want to re-evaluate your plans. I have an Early FEJ F-16 with a Wren SS (same weight as a 54). I debated the pros and cons of tail vs. mid mounting the engine. After weighing all the components and calculating moments for both scenarios I concluded that after balancing there was no weight advantage to tail mounting it.
Unless you don't already have a pipe why not conventionally mount the engine? I had to add 24 oz. of batteries to the nose to balance mine. I wouldn't have gone with redundant batteries if I didn't need the nose weight. Additional nose weight would be required for a tail mounting.
By the way mine came out to 20.5 lbs. dry and I wish it had more power. I don't think it would perform very well with only 14 # of thrust.
