PST F-84G Build Thread
I have decided to do a build thread on a PST F-84G this winter. It is such a cool airplane, I figured I would share pics of the progress. We have a lot of plans for this bird, it will have a sliding canopy, scale speedbrake mechanism and a fresh paint job in the Strategic Air Command colors, it will then be topped off with a nice weathering job by myself and my buddy that happens to be an ex special effects expert from Hollywood!
My plan of attack is to hit all the major stuff that will be difficult to accomplish, or at least get it roughed out and come back and tweak everything before internal install and finishing begins. I started with the main gear and door installation, I designed and laser cut custom parts to make door installation much easier.

RE: PST F-84G Build Thread
Actually, before I started the gear install, I had to build a cradle to hold this monster. I mapped the body contours in CAD and then zapped some .250 plywood with the laser to make a cradle that holds the main fuselage and tail section. It was designed to hold the aircraft rightside up or upside down. The tail stand portion was made to hold the tail at the proper height so that the two sections could be slid together for assembly, it allows one persone to assemble the model at the field with no risk of damage to the extended tailpipe or aircraft itself.

RE: PST F-84G Build Thread
Once I had main doors figured out, I wanted to move on to the speedbrake. Sice we are planning on taking this plane to the next level of previous projects I wanted to do something other than a hinge and air cylinder in the speedbrake. I did some research and spent a lot of time in CAD to come up with the scale mechanism to operate brake. I turned down the radius rods that rotate the door as the forward portion rolls along a track so the brake rolls back as it deflects. The process was a real pain but was worth it! For those of you interested, I will be offering all the parts that I design and cut to assist with your build. Please e-mail for more info.

RE: PST F-84G Build Thread
Hi Chris,
The F-84 was one of my favourites in the fifties, when I was a boy. The Danish Air Force had them at that time. When I saw that PST had released a kit, I knew that I´d get one of them, one day....
I´ll be following your thread with great interest. Keep up the good work.
Pete

Sean,
I used a contour gauge, traced it out on graph paper and mapped it into CAD from there. There is some sanding and filling to get it to fit perfect but it is close.

Ok, so I have managed to get the speedbrake bay and mchanism in the fuse. I have it operating but not perfect yet. I still have some changes to make, but I am very close! My brain hurts, I think this is it for tonight!

Chris...you are one talented individual!!!
Videos can be uploaded in RCU but you have to register again, and the resolution is not that high...It is easier to sign up to a video hosting service such as You tube and upload it there and post the URL here...
I presume you are the Chris that bult the panther for Dean....?? That was a nice plane! (my buddy bought it...)

Chris,
There was nothing I´d rather do - but with an L-39 Albatros almost ready and a Ziroli Panther on it´s way, I´d better finish those first two first....[&o]
